Doodle

I was playing a Mario fangame and went into full screen mode. Now all I get is a black background saying "Cannot display this video mode." in white text. I can't see anything, so I don't know how to fix it...

...help?

Boot into safe mode.
NOTE:Press F8 before you see the windows logo. It'll give you options.
You want safe mode with networking or just safe mode.

Right click on desktop>properties>settings
Set the bar to 800x600 px.
Reboot normally, tell me if it comes up.

Edit; By the way, typically those like to bring you into 640x480, which some monitors/video cards don't like;
That message you got implies you're on a Dell LCD monitor, which won't allow you to set the res above the correct one, thus giving you that message.

Doodle

I can't change it in safe mode.
It goes to 600 x something. It won't let me change it.

You should be able to change it.
Are you on an administrator account?
That makes a difference, if i'm correct.

Doodle

Yeah, I'm on the administrator account.
Should I be on mine?

Try it.
What's it do when you try to drag the bar?
Is it greyed out?

Try going into display properties, click advanced, go to the monitor tab, and uncheck "hide modes..."
Then try changing it.

Doodle

Going on my account didn't seem to change anything.
The bar isn't greyed out. It just won't move.

"Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is greyed out, though.

Hmm.
Something's wrong;
I just tested on my other computer, and it lets me drag the bar.
Err, give me a minute, i'm gonna go check something.

Alright try rebooting and pressing f8 again, go to 'enable VGA mode'.
And see if you can change it.
If not, see if 'last known configuration' works.

Doodle

VGA mode kind of worked. I changed the resolution, then turned it off. Then I started it up normally. It worked for a little bit. I logged in and stuff. But then after maybe 10 seconds or so, it went back to saying "Cannot display this video mode."

I can change the settings and resolution in VGA mode, though.

"Last known configuration that worked" didn't work at all. As soon as it went to the login screen it said "Cannot display this video mode."

Try to quickly change it after you log on.
I'm assuming you're on 800x600 or 1024x768.
Try applying the settings on restart option.
Display properties>advanced>general> check "Restart computer before applying new display settings."

Sorry, my mom brought home some pizza, so I was eating. :P

I tried 800x600. I'm going to try 1024x768, since I think that's what it's usually set to.
I'll check "Restart computer before applying new display setting," too.

Doodle

Ok, I found out something.
It only shows the "Cannot display this video mode" on MY account. I just tested it.
I went on my parents account, nothing happened. Went on mine, 5 seconds later it showed the screen.

Hm.
When you went to VGA mode did you go onto your account?
