Some MadWorld reviews are coming in, which is good news.

In the three or so I've seen, it seems to be quite consistent:

Pro:
- superb graphics
- great soundtrack
- complex but easy controls
- exciting story

Con:
- some camera issues
- boring (but short) motorbike passages
- boring multiplayer mode

That brings me to this: Is the single player experience going to win us all over? Based on MP3, I'd say it likely will. I still am stoked, and with generally positive reviews thus far, I'd say MW will rule.

Mario583

Greg Proops + John DiMaggio = WIN!!!!

I don't care about the reviews, I am 100% getting this ninny.

Jono2

MP3 was a good game.

However, it was a poopty Metroid game.

yes.

Also, the ONLY true hardcore game not named No More Heroes is FINALLY coming out? MUST GET! Getting both that and Black Knight on the same day. Finally I have something new to play ^_^

Macawmoses

Lol Nayr. I'm not sure how BK will be, but I'm quite stoked about it.

And we have a few hardcore games, but they're just not appreciated. Hardcore =/= Violent. Thus, Brawl and MP3 are hardcore.

Too easy and intended "kid friendlyness" of the game in general (pretty much every newcomer villain and friend were sapped of all coolness*, but I guess I have to agree to some extent of MP3.

Macawmoses

The definition of hardcore is games aimed at more serious players. Brawl still offers hardcore elements - unlockables, strat, deep play (multiplayer) etc.

terrible online, lack of a decent single player mode, stages purposely designed to help beginner players by being aggrivatingly cheap.
But I see your point.
Remember though, for every "core" game the Wii gets, twenty more pieces of shovelware appear on shelves to take up space...

Macawmoses

Oh of course. We don't get that many noteworthy titles, but they do exist. MadWorld and The Conduit, should they sell well, would change the scope of the Wii forever.

not SHOULD they sell well, NEED to sell well. If these two (along with NMH2) don't have good sales, I predict the Wii will be forever doomed to crappy third party shovelware no core gamer will enjoy and the continued dark age for Nintendo in the core gamer's eyes.
Very pessimistic I know, but the Wii SCREAMS Atari2600 in 1983 (and we all know what happened THAT year...)

Macawmoses

Um, NMH2 isn't scheduled out for another 2 years. If these two don't sell well, chances are it won't even come into existence.

I need to try MadWorld, I'm going to rent that and BK at Blockbuster tomorrow.

Nayr, the only difference between the 2600 and Wii is that even casual game players of the time got sick of bad games, but in this generation they seem to eat them up.

Casuals will get tired of them and move onto the next piece of shiny equipment that does things differently. It's a passing fancy if anything unless Nintendo actually makes an effort to:
a) clean up the 3rd party filth
b) give casuals a reason to actually become gamers for real (meaning make things at least mildly difficult, and not pander to them every chance they get)
and
c) actually give online a real service so it actually makes a COMMUNITY outside of the living room so there is actually some competition to make them grow...

Macawmoses

I honestly don't see that coming to fruition for Nintendo. The only gateway drugs games they have are MKWii, Brawl, and arguably, Professor Layton.

They don't need gateway games for the time being - they need casual titles to feed the mindless drones, and the odd hardcore title to appease its loyal base (who won't abandon them).

As you said, for the time being. Nintendo is walking a VERY fine line. Hopefully Miyamoto and Aounuma remember how easy it was for them to be toppled by the PSone back in the day, and realize that simply having the casuals for the one generation will mean pretty much nothing overall. (Unfortunately Iwata, Reggie, and the rest of NOA seem to be so far up their own asses they can't be helped at the moment). This casual movement they've got could either be insanely helpful in the long run (as mentioned, if Nintendo actually tries to make them gamers, not casuals) or it could end up being absolutely disastrous in the long run. Their business model leaves almost no wiggle room. This could either end up being a new golden age Nintendo will dominate for a good ten to twelve years, or end up biting them so hard in the ass they'll be in some deep poop in about four or five years (again, once the casuals move onto the next piece of shiny white box that does something different).
