Didn't read the whole topic, but yeah, the snacks at the movies here are over priced, so what we do is get our tickets a tad early, walk down to Target(it's all part of the mall) and get snacks at Target, not only is it cheaper, there's a bigger selection >:3 but get caught by the wrong person at the theater, you'll be told to get rid of the food(or so I've been told)

I smuggle in my own stuff every time.
$3.50 for something I can get for 99 cents at Target? I think not.
But snacks are the biggest source of income for movie theaters.

I was at a theater yesterday...and a 20 oz bottle of water was $4.50 :|

Bottled water is one of the most over-priced things you can buy.....no matter where you buy it.

Normally at a gas station or such a 16. fl oz bottled water is around $0.99? (I think.....maybe more). So pretty much a dollar for 16. fl oz.......when a gallon of gas costs less then $2.50 (where I live).

idk how many fl oz are in a gallon.......so if someone could figure that out......then you could see how crazily overpriced water is.

Yesterday, sort of. I was on the verge of crying. Why? I got into an argument with a couple other people from #nsider and it got me really upset. I didn't really cry much though

Same with sporting events/arenas/stadiums/etc

$15 for a hamburger. :|
No combo meal?
Just a plain burger with no fries and drink?

Even tickets nowadays are almost ludicrously expensive (I still remember when my family of five could go to the movies for less than $25 bucks... GOOD LUCK NOW!). **Maybe if studios would stop spending s***loads of money on special effects and overpriced actors who can't act**

ANYHOO, yes, that is where theaters make their money. Same goes for theme parks and sports games. Although I have to agree, it's still ridiculous. I wouldn't mind so much if I knew it actually went to the employees, but I know guys who work at movie theaters and barely made more than me at my fast food job. It's like the gas prices go, until people say enough is enough and stop buying, they'll keep raising the prices to even more absurd levels.

LUCKILY for me, I go to Walgreens before the theater, buy like five or six candy bars for 75 cents each, and put them in the pockets of cargo pants whenever I walk in. It's not like they can check me on grounds of candy smuggling. I usually only buy popcorn. If I bring a bottle of water, they usually just let me bring it in. It's water, there is no sensible grounds to not allow someone to bring in their own water XD
I should probably start doing that, too. Because it just seems a little too outragous.

I was just curious as to why they do this.

Just sneak food in. It isn't that hard, you know, just put it in a bag that won't make as much noise as those poopty crumbly stuff.

Beatnik

I carry a satchel everywhere I go, and I usually just stick some chocolate and a can of soda in and carry it in with me. If you buy large fridge packs of soda like me, they're something like 50 cents a can. You can save a lot of money like that.

I often wonder about the hours when a man sits alone, watching the smoke of a cigarette, thinking. I wonder what great things have come from such hours. When a man thinks, there is a spot of fire alive in his mind-and it is proper that he should have the burning point of a cigarette as his one expression..."

Hmm, I didn't know Nayr had a little black in him. :P

Eh, I don't have a problem paying for that much. As has been pointed out, it's how they make profit. And honestly, I don't see a snack as a necessity when I watch a movie. If I'm feeling cheap, I don't buy the poop.

However, I have, and always will, hate companies that make their product look extremely filled, only to have it have little. Bags of chips are one loathe. To me, it's like false advertising - especially at a theater where you can't get your hands on the product first.

LOL.
That is true.

Chips are the best example for that.
Whether it be small or king sized.

It's especially bad. I was watching Ellen Degeneres one day, and she took three of those jumbo bags of chips, dumped them into one bag, stapled it shut, and purchased it. Three intercourse ing bags.

Consumer Reports often parodies things like that, calling them the Black Hole Awards.

Another reason Ellen is badass.

Triforceman22

lol, my theatre has some pretty decent prices.
Super large popcorn is only 3 bucks.

QuoteRobotnik: GET A LOAD OF THIS!!!!!!!!

I always go to stop and shop or CVS before a movie and get some stuff there. I can't remember the last time I actually paid for snacks at a theater.
