I need a Laptop, I've come to the experts

My brother has a Compaq.  They're just HP laptops with Compaq labels.

His works fine.

I'm going to use this topic to answer one of my questions.  ::)
What's the word on Acer notebooks? Good, bad, ect... I'm also looking around.

From my search, they seem just as good as any other notebook.
Spec wise they seem to be on par with the others and a little cheaper...
My big problem is screen size and brightness, not sure what Acer does in that department.

Hey, you can get a Compaq at your own risk, but I'm sure most people here will tell you those two companies aren't any good

My Compaq is decent, but then again, this is a desktop from 2001 we're talking about.  Try for an HP if you can, I think they're good (just not the 103 GB HD space and 1 GB RAM (even those smaller computers have more power than mine ;-;)).

I would say spend a little bit more to get a faster and better laptop that will last longer.

You could spend 1600 and get a Laptop that will last you a good 4 years.

I wouldn't buy another laptop. Because if I do in 6-12 months it would be obsolete.
The are hard to upgrade, maintain and break easily (parts not working or malfunctioning).

But if you need it, for "school work" and just "School work" mean no games, porn, and downloading of the torrents, I wouldn't spend more than 500 dollars.
