299 USD, 120GB HDD

Are you impressed by this?  Impressed enough to finally get a PS3?  I know I am, and I plan to pick one of these babies up at Christmas.

Any thoughts?

Since I already got my 60GB that's backwards compatible with PS2/PS1 games, I'll stick with that.

But holy crap 300 dollars for 120GB, and the PS3's power? Great, GREAT move by Sony. The exact same price the PS2 launched with eight years ago. I know the economy is in the poops right now, but now the PS3 looks a hell of a lot more appealing.

Frankly it was the only move they COULD do considering they're slowly lagging behind the 360 in everywhere besides Japan. This should give them a good boost in sales and excitement from the developers.

Doubt I can afford it, or get it for christmas, and the lack of backwards-compatibility is annoying.

Still, with more and more great games, a slim, and a price that makes sense, it's nice that the PS3 is finally... not sucking.

Goodbye, Microsoft!  Have fun with Red Ring, Bungie-less Halo, mediocre versions of old N64 games, and that Gears game that I never even wanted!

Meh.
I already got a PS3...
So it doesn't really matter to me...

QuoteRobotnik: GET A LOAD OF THIS!!!!!!!!

HTA!

Good move, but with all the games I want multi-console, I'll stick with my 360.

lol the XBLA versions of Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie annihilate the originals. Right thumbstick for camera control beats C-buttons any day.

yea, but, it's Banjo Kazooie. Mario 64 beats it in so many ways...

I should clarify.  When I said "mediocre versions" I didn't really mean versions of the same game, I meant new games of the same series.  Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, etc. were much better on N64 than their 360 sequels.

I already have the 80GB with pseudo-backwards compatibility, so I have no need for one.  I am hoping with the 3.0 software update coming later this year that we could ~possibly~ get proper emulation software from Sony.  I doubt it will happen, but I'm going to hope.

I don't think it's possible to implement the Emotion Engine with a firmware update.

I don't really need backwards compatibility.  I don't play my PS2 games much anymore, but if I get an itch I can just hook up my PS2.

I remembered hearing that Sony recently patented an emulator for the Emotion Engine.  I don't remember where though.  May be nothing but speculation.

I already have a PS3, but it borked, so I might invest in this. Only problem for me, like pretty much everyone else, is the lack of backwards-compatibility. Also Sync, if you read this, I told you so. :U
Holy crap all my sigs were always poop. Best leave this space alone.

Mutilator7

I was thinking about it because it's only 299 now. They are also lowering the price of xbox360 elite to 299 and getting rid of the pro :O

There can't be those n64 games on the 360 arcade for very obvious reasons.
