That is the official 500,000th post. If none of the posts were deleted on this forum, there would have been 499,999 behind him. The numbers don't change when things are deleted.

The deleted posts exist, but they aren't counted. SMF says we have about 491k posts, and that's what we're going by for the contest.

That isn't how "gets" work though. It goes by whoever gets the post number. We have 491k posts now but in a few years I might delete some stupid old posts I made and intercourse up more numbers accidentally. Some old user might come back and be like "Oh god why did I make these retarded posts, I want to start off clean."

We're just going to aim for 600k the correct way by going by the numbers and not the SMF post count.

Anyway, even if that is the true 500,000th post, it doesn't count toward the contest. What we are looking for is post 500,000 that registers in the stats. Congrats Jono for getting the true 500,000, but unfortunately it doesn't count in this contest.

There was a 500k get, simple as that.
I'm certain that the 30k posts lost were not all spam and junk/user deleted posts. I'm positive they're lost posts from one of the forum crashes.
Thus at some point, the stats read "500,000". This likely isn't it, being that there were posts deleted, but it's the closest we'd find to the actual one, AND it has the plus of actually being the 500,000th post itself.
