Shit, that sucks man.  Like they said, if you get fired because of this, you can take it to court.  It was an accident-nothing you could have done could have altered the outcome.

My next door neighbor just got fired on his first day at his new job JUST because he didn't smile enough.  Seriously.

Smiling actually is important if you're working a cash register or something where people see you a lot. Though I think most bosses just make them do poopty stuff (like clean bathrooms), then later let them do the other job again and tell them to smile more, or that's what I would do. If he's good with words he can win in court though, but it seriously is important to smile.
Oh yeah, and if he got fired his first day, either that won't matter because it was super early or something, or he could very easily get unemployment because of the lack of a warning. I don't know how a lot of this crap works, but my sister got unemployment mainly because the boss didn't give her a warning, she just said "OK, you're fired."

@ Jr. - This was a viable reason to get rid of me. I injured it outside of work, so it isn't protected. And it's not for the fact that I'm incompetent (I was the 'head busser' AKA I trained all the new people), it's the fact that I'm holding up a position when we're very busy.
