I start my Armed Security job tonight, 12am to 8 am.  Should be interesting.
What is the definition of armed?

I'm disappointed in our lack of activity once again.

Oh.  Don't be dissapoint.  I help you.

Armed security means carrying a fire arm, in my case a S&W 40 cal "Sigma."  I do foot patrol and stationary to ensure the venue remains secure.

Ugh, that sounds...sketchy.

I'm sure there is a huge venue difference, but as someone that oversaw security where I did, I couldn't imagine them walking around with guns. Did they have something to work with? Yes. But nothing to the point of being lethal without much intent.

BOREDFOREVER

My venue is located in a dangerous part of town; gunshots not too far away are the norm here.  In fact, a set of shots not a mile away greeted me as I started my first foot patrol of the evening.  Also, you have to remember that security detail is going to be different here in the States versus Canada.  Armed security is common.

Super

Being paid to shoot people would be awesome.

Reading the Wikitravel article for America is hilarious, they make it seem like every police officer in America carries an AK-47.

Tuppy frightens me with his knowledge of legacy technology.

Just AKs?  I mean, SKS and ARs too.  Also, they don't carry them as much as have them in the trunk.  A lot of departments outfit units with assault rifles.

They probably do, just not with them.
...You know what I mean. They have them in their cars, but not strapped to their side or something crazy.
And probably not AK-47s strictly.

Sounds pretty badass. I'd poop myself if I saw you coming at me with a gun.

I'm not sure the nation as a whole makes a huge difference. Armed security exists up here - it's just not something I'm used to. Perhaps that's a matter of small town vs. city.

More so, keep in mind that Canada (particularly Alberta) has a gun culture of its own.
