The Old Money is the elite aristocratic class (in terms of the terms origin) that wanted to hold on to power (it could also be the bourgeois), while the nouveau riche were the new businessmen that gained positions of power. In current day, think of the Old Money being people that have had wealth passed down for generations or lived a privileged life  while the new money would be people that just struck it big.
