Guys, I've come to a conclusion as of today.

Metroid: Other M is better than Metroid Prime 3.

>My review score for Corruption: 9.5
>Score for "Trilogy": 10
>Score for Other M: 7

I definitely love the Prime games. The 2D games didn't draw me in as much. Other M is a fine game, but I feel they butchered Samus. They butchered the Metroid world I know. And, come on, authorizing weapon use? Pah.

I could go on for hours about Other M, and already have, numerous times. But see, you rated the Trilogy, three games as a whole, including one of the best games to ever be created, 10/10, perfect. What would your score for Corruption be on its own, without the support of the two finer games of the Trilogy?

Because while Other M doesn't really have a good atmosphere, among other things, Prime 3 really didn't have that stellar of an atmosphere going for it either, especially when compared to the other 2 Prime games. It felt...generic, by comparison. And, at least Other M had difficulty. Corruption could be summarized as "SWITCH TO HYPERMODE, RECHARGE AT SAVE STATION", with some "look what we can do with the Wii!" gimmicks here and there.

Then again, comparing the Prime games to Other M is a bit unfair...

I posted what I rated Corruption on its own. 9.5.
It's the same I rated all three of the Prime games individually. As one, neat package, after the fact no less, it garnished a perfect score. Each of the three was more than worthy on its own, however.

And I digress about Corruption. My only real qualm was difficulty. But as someone who hardly used Hyper Mode with the exceptions as to where it was necessary (ie. killing Phazon infused things, or on Phaaze) I found the game to still be sort of easy. Despite that, the environmental puzzles were far superior to Other M's...which literally involve going into first person and looking for who knows what until you RANDOMLY DISCOVER IT. Part of Corruption's beauty was seeing what you wanted, but having no clue how to get it at first (ie. the Metroids debut in it).

As for the atmosphere, one trip back to Sky Town, and I have to say I don't agree at all. It's so remote. The vast areas without enemies are gorgeous, absorbing, and even chilling. There are the tense moments too, but I really felt alone there. With the Troopers and enemies in Other M presented as they were, even after the first hour, I never really felt that during any portion.

Well I'm an idiot for not seeing that score.

You're right with the environmental puzzles, but if I recall, Other M was a throwback to Super Metroid, rather than trying to be Prime (which does contradict part of what I said earlier), and Super Metroid really didn't have puzzle solving. Super Metroid was all exploration and figuring out how to work around obstacles until you had the proper power-up, which Other M did not pull have because it had ABSOLUTE LINEARITY.

Now, Sky Town is the only area that even does remotely anything for me, and even then it's just...meh. Look down and see sky. Look ahead of you, and see brown steampunk brand metal. SUCH ABSORBING, CHILLING ATMOSPHERE. And you say that the troopers and enemies in Other M don't give you the feeling that you're alone, and I say bullpoop. Because, like Other M, there are people to talk to in Corruption. There is no isolation when there are characters contacting you left and right, and when you walk through the desolate, brown, Pirate Homeworld to find troopers standing around...posing. At least people die in Other M, and at the very end, you're all alone, running around the Bottle Ship, no one to talk to, no plot to hold your exploration back, with the exception of one area. And yes, transparent text is my spoiler.

...now that I think about it, there was one area that did have something going for it in Prime 3, at least to me. Bryyo Ice was such a nice change of pace, compared to what came before it, but that's probably because I love desolate, snowy areas like Phendrana Drifts, something Bryyo Ice has similarities to. Shame that section was so short.

For the sake of me not re-iterating anything before we get into it further, I ask you read

QuoteWhile I'm sure I'll take heat for this, I have to say there was something that just didn't mesh well with me about any of the non-Prime games. They were all good games, in every sense of the word, but all felt lacking to me. Other M continues that spell.

I tell you this because I feel it is an important part of my thoughts on the game. I don't want Metroid purists to send me hate mail for not knowing every intricacy of the series. This review is for people who started in the Prime series.
