It's tragic to me, a person with real life friends who like to play games, that so few good co-op games are four player splitscreen these days.

and this right here is the single biggest reason i hate all modern video games

I was never the biggest fan of splitscreen just because my vision is not the best.

Me too.  You know what else pisses me off?  Why doesn't my cellphone have a rotary dial?  I mean, come on!  The tactile feedback and ease of dialing is something these so called modern phones need.

And when I start my car, I don't get to pull out the choke or wind up the front.  Now I've got all these winding handles laying around, and I'm constantly pulling off my stereo's volume knob.  You didn't have to worry about warming up your car as much when you could do it yourself with a crank handle, plus it's a great morning workout.

How is that an analogy at all? Split-screen lets you play with people you actually know without owning 4 HD TVs (since modern games are practically unwatchable and literally illegible in SD), 4 copies of the game, and 4 consoles; it also IN NO WAY impedes your preferred method; games CAN have split-screen, LAN, AND online modes, sometimes even in combinations such as Halo allowing 4-player split-screen online. Removing a certain number of players in split-screen from games such as Call of Duty's zombie and online modes, Halo's co-op campaign mode, and Borderlands' online and LAN modes is just idiocy or the company's attempts to make us pay an extra several hundred dollars to get another player in; split-screen is a practical and enjoyable optional feature in the games that have it, it's not some ultra limitation on performance like the things you mentioned (and before you say "the games are generating too much to run on split-screen," keep in mind I JUST SAID that the creators of Borderlands themselves said it could runs split-screen had they bothered to put it in).

BOREDFOREVER

I think it does impede my preferred method of gaming; I don't like gaming split-screen.  Everything gets smushed up and we have better methods of co-op and multiplayer.  And anything added to a game means time and money that could have been spent on something else, like perfecting online or single player experiences.

The analogy is that we have better ways of doing things now, and even if the old ways had their benefits getting the new way is worth the loss of the old.  I know all your arguments for split screen, like less physical tech/appliances needed to play with your friends.  But I'd rather lose that and gain online multiplayer, and be able to play against my friend while he's at home.  When we get together to hang out, we can do other poop than play games, or play games that are built for parties, like Rock Band or Castle Crashers.

Gearbox could have put split screen in, but it would have been more development time building it and testing it, time which they dedicated to other aspects of the game.

I get that you love split-screen, and I can't fault you for that.  But I can fault you for saying it's the biggest reason you hate all modern video games.  Did you really buy new systems and sit on your hands, hoping that one or two would come out and have split screen?

Super

All of my friends and I have jobs. There is no issue concerning multiple TVs, systems, etc. Splitscreen is fine at get-togethers, but when I want to play multiplayer on a regular day, I'm going to online it up and play fullscreen.

Don't like that new games aren't so splitscreen friendly? Get a job, go play older games, or get over yourself. I am okay with splitscreen, but you guys regard it too highly.

Split screen isn't something archaic though, and it's not really a step down either. Local multiplayer should still be an integral part of a multiplayer game, and one would assume that it wouldn't in any way impede online play since they should be virtually the same thing.

Sure we have internet gaming and wireless LAN but those things are more of an enhancement. And those aren't necessarily better depending on the situation you're in. Obviously online is better when you don't have any friends living close to you you or coming over. But a 4 player split screen would be better for just playing with your friends when you're all gathered in a single location. There's LAN too, which is fine if you have enough consoles and tvs. But games seem to be limiting it to two players per console/screen these days.

lan is fine wehn it's done right, i didnt intend to exclude it in my initial post.

online multiplayer is not ok with me and does not even come close to replicating local multiplayer. This is clearly my opinion and not a subject for debate. if you dont agree i dont give a poop, im not asking for online multiplayer to be removed.

and yes i'm entitled enough to think games should have both. it was not a problem until this generation when companies realized they could force multiple purchases by removing local multiplayer.

When you post an opinion on the internet, people are going to give their opinion in response.  They're going to discuss the points of your opinion, look at your reasoning, and compare it to yours.  This is how a discussion forum works.

If you truly didn't give a poop, you wouldn't have defended your opinion against anyone else's.

Don't be a ninny.
