A lot of big games are overrated - it's just how the public [public meaning the group of fans for a specific game] views the game they adore compared to all the other games.

Halo 3 is overrated, SSBB is overrated; hell, MP3 and GHIII are overrated, too.

More or less, I think they are talking about the "HYPE" for SSBB.

In the 1st case, the thread was based upon Halo 3 being overrated.

And Mario games aren't? Nintendo's been producing almost nothing but poop for Mario, and yet people drool over him like he's some sort of gaming messiah.

Really, there isn't much that's popular that isn't overrated.

Halo is like Super Mario Bros, all of it's main innovations have been integrated into mainstream games of it's genre in general, thus making it look seemingly generic.
