Anything that epitomizes what it is.

Example, someone could be:

A hardcore gangster

A hardcore bookworm

A hardcore just person in general.
HEY LOOK HEY

Riosan

Hardcore games are anything, IMO, that can be taken seriously or gamed competitively. Hardcore-ness doesn't really depend on blood, but it helps.

Counter-Strike: Source wouldn't be the same if, when a terrorist gets shot, if he spat out bunnies instead of blood.

Oh, I thought he meant something that had to do with this topic...

Commander Awesome

I really dislike games that tack on extra gimmicks that are intrusive to the overall gameplay just for the lulz. (Here's looking at you, 99.9% of the Wii library.)

Otherwise, I'd have to put one example in for hardcore: Brothers in Arms. It's truely a great game, but on the higher difficulties, it'll pwn even the FPS masters. The storyline and charcters are masterful, and the gameplay maintains a great sense of realism, while realizing that it's just a game. It gives you leeway if you're having trouble, but it's rather insignificant. ("War sometimes isn't fair, but video games should be. Do you want to heal yourself and your squad?") There really isn't enough praise for the game. Intense squad-based combat, while sticking to realism and story as well.

The ending to Earned in Blood will stick in my mind for time to come. During the course of the final mission, two major characters are killed, both characters that have been there since the begining. Red comments that during the push to St. Martin, -insert character name here- gave him a -insert character name here- history lesson. "So, my first name is Seamus, named after my father. I never knew my father, so I don't know why on Earth my mother would name me after him. And my Mother, SHE was a piece of work. Did you know she once got me up at three o' clock in the morn' to wash the dishes? Then she found my sister making out with some guy she knew. She ended up stappling her dress shut after grounding her..."

Judas

"With a heart of furious fancies, whereof I am commander, with a burning spear and a horse of air, to the wilderness I wander."

I don't have a definition for the word, I don't even use the word myself.
