I think they delayed it to fix some stuff maybe add a little.

I think the biggest reason was not to have Super Mario Galaxy and Brawl competing at the same time. If that happened, Brawl might take away from SMG's popularity. I'm kinda glad for the delay. Let's me get more things on Christmas.  :D
