Part 1: Number of Characters
SSB64 characters: 12
Melee Characters: 25
Increase: 52%
Melee Characters: 25
Brawl Characters: 35
Increase: 28%
Conclusion: Melee increased the number of characters by 52%, but Brawl increased it only by 28%.
Part 2: Revealed Information
Total Brawl Characters: 35
1. Returning from Melee: 21 (21/35 = 60%)
60% of Brawl characters are old. 40% of Brawl characters are new.
2. Revealed before Roster Leak:
a) Revealed newcomers on Dojo: 11
b) Already experienced in Melee: 21
c) Total Known: 32 (32/35 = 91%)
d) Total Unknown: 3 ([spoiler]Lucario, Wolf, ROB[/spoiler]: 3/35 = 9%)
Conclusion: 60% of Brawl characters are from Melee, and only 3 are surprises. (Not preivously revealed on Dojo; not in Melee.)
Part 3: Character Choices
People don't like [spoiler]ROB and Toon Link[/spoiler]; they like Ridley and Geno.
SUMMARY
1. There are 28% more characters in Brawl than Melee, but Melee had 52% more than SSB64.
2. 60% of Brawl characters were in Melee.
3. Only 3 characters on the final roster weren't on the Dojo or in Melee.
4. People don't like [spoiler]ROB and Toon Link[/spoiler], 2 of those 3 characters.
the three new characters that we didn't already know about from either the dojo or melee were terribly disappointing. [spoiler]Nobody wanted ROB, few people wanted Toon Link, as he's just a Link clone. Lucario was well placed, but the only one.[/spoiler]

I'm fine if I don't get everyone I want, but they get over twice as long to make this game than did Melee or Smash, and yet only nine new characters? I know they made subspace but jeezus they could've done more than that...especially since over half hte characters were done since the models were handed to them by other developers!

ROB is what I'm mad at. there's no reason for ROB to be in the game.
I don't want 50+ characters. I'm fine with 35 characters, so long as the characters in are good characters. but that obviously didn't happen. at the very least, one of them is a complete waste of space.

Ganondorf is a C. Falcon clone. again.
Ness is a Lucas Clone.
Falco's FS matches Fox's, and looks to be shaping up to be another clone. If Wolf is in the game, he can't be anything but a clone.
Ganon's FS matches Bowsers, except a different character.
Jiggs' FS is potentially just huge Jiggs.
Luigi & Mario, obviously.
Lucario looks like a vamped up mewtwo.
like, they could be more original, but nintendo saw how much hype it was getting, so they decided to just spend less time and effort on it and just give us a roster of intercourse ing clones, while they can continue to rake in money with their stupid-ass intercourse ing system.

Do you HAVE the game? Have you played it and said, "Yeah, Ganondorf is a clone.". OH WAIT, YOU HAVEN'T. Half of your whining has no real evidence to it, so until actual info is given about the characters, I'd advise you to relax.
I'm not to sure about this, but isn't the jump from cartridge to mini-disc bigger then the jump from mini-disc to DVD-sized?

There are much more deserving representatives from series that need more reps, like Metroid, F-Zero, heck, Pokemon, Mario (yes, paper mario is far more deserving) Warioware, Yoshi, Starfox. What about Custom Robo? Ray 01? another third party? what about Tails? what about Lloyd Irving? Bomberman? there are far more suitable reps than ROB.

The game has been "out" for almost a day, and you're trusting a list as the most official source...?
ROB deserves it, being part of Nintendo's history. I'm not too pleased with him being in either, but he certainly deserves it more then Lloyd or Tingle. Ray 01 kinda does deserve it, and Geno isn't ever going to happen...
I'm not saying they're deserving. They're more deserving than a character that shouldn't be in-game, that was a crappy toy, that was just a moneymaker for nintendo. :|
ROB is a blight on Nintendo's history, not a shining star. it shows their first way of scamming people out of their money by using gimmicks to sell a game. why people look back on ROB as a good thing, I don't know. just because it made the company succeed overseas, doesn't mean it was a good thing in the first place.
ToS2:KoR is coming out within the year. Lloyd would be a good advertisement.

Ridley is more deserving because:
1. metroid should have another rep as the 5th most profitable nintendo franchise
2. ZSS doesn't count as a new rep, as she's a shiek version of samus
3. Dark Samus has Samus in the name.
4. Ridley is the most recurring character aside from samus in the series.
Yoshi has his own series, more games in it than Wario does his. if Yoshi should be morphed into the mario series, Wario should too.

ROB isn't even a videogame character, with the exception of mario kart. There are much more deserving representatives from series that need more reps, like Metroid, F-Zero, heck, Pokemon, Mario (yes, paper mario is far more deserving) Warioware, Yoshi, Starfox. What about Custom Robo? Ray 01? another third party? what about Tails? what about Lloyd Irving? Bomberman? there are far more suitable reps than ROB.
The question is, why would you put ROB in the game over other more deserving characters? Because they were lazy. Maybe Ridley was too big. maybe Black Shadow wasn't main enough. maybe they didn't want to put in the paper mario physics, get the third party reps?
ROB is filler. that's why it's undeserving.

Well, hell of a lot more characters are more deserving than Rob is. Rob is a fialed peripheral that is only remembered for hwo utterly bad it was. Seriously, Ray 01, Geno, Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia, Isaac from Golden Sun, heck even TINGLE is a better idea than Rob is X_X;;
Not to mention, Rob is in the lowest tier.

ROB deserves it, being part of Nintendo's history. I'm not too pleased with him being in either, but he certainly deserves it more then Lloyd or Tingle. Ray 01 kinda does deserve it, and Geno isn't ever going to happen...

Tekken 6 has what... 38, possibly more characters. each has 50 distinct moves to themselves. Yeah, it's on the PS3, but that's beside the point. They could have been much more original than how they were.

Hey, I liked WW. And Majora's Mask. And I hated Sunshine.
Luckily, Wario can use his WL costume as an alt. costume as sorts...I prefer that design myself.

Although that would make sense, you must realize like a game like this would have hidden characters. Kinda like Mog, Umaroro, and Gogo from Final Fantasy 6. You didn't get them in the main story mode, and they had no story. Smash can work like that. Besides, why do all the characters need to be in the Story Mode, anyways?

you do realize that the "prophets" who predicted the 35 character roster (they only found 34) a week ago, yes, a week ago, got the exact same list? there haven't been any updates since then, so perhaps there is no 35th character? perhaps we got shafted even more than we thought?
They can't find the "last" character, and marth was unlocked through classic mode, but seriously, unless there are 9 more unlockable characters (leading to 44 + two pokemon + ZSS + shiek, leading to a total of 48 characters, which is ludicrous) to create another row, that this IS our starting roster.
If this is all there is, we should have gotten the game on December 3rd or even earlier.

he isn't an exact clone. his up B is slightly different, a punch instead of a facerape.
but im disappointed that there's no personalized target tests. there are only 4 of them. :|
ganon kept his A moves, and Falco's are the same, so the "clones" will probably have different B moves...
except for Toon Link though. :-\
Oh well, the better for me then.. Ganondorf & Young Link were my best characters in Melee, so the lack of change is good in that I can still practice as them, and use them freshly when Brawl is released.
Unfortunately though, Marth is apparently nerfed, and Dr Mario is gone, so I'm down 2 characters I've mastered to PWN people with :O

So there are still clones? Toon Link should have a moveset based on Wind Waker, Four Sword, and Minish Cap. Ganon should definitely be decloned, along with Falco.

they should have kept (nearly) all of the veterans as normal characters, then only released the newcomers as unlockables. nobody would be complaining then.

Yes. For someone who "knows what the game will look like before he starts working on it", not a lot of what he told us came true: either he lied, the demands were too high (>_>), or the Journal was a fake.

Seriously though, I've watched just about every gameplay video on Youtube, and they are clones, just more 64 Luigi, if you know what I mean. And If you look at the character select screen, all of the characters are organized by game, which was a sign of completeness in Melee, and there's only room for one more character if you remove the random box.
the random box is there to stay, and you know it.

No, His Down A* now automatically speeds him downwards! His Spin is longer and has a lesser effect! His Smash Right/Left* now makes him move over more.
*Yeah, I'm guessing those are the directions for performing those moves...
