Title: Okay, since I need help I'm going to expand the help base
Post by: JMV on February 08, 2008, 02:32:47 PM
I need some recordings of some one talking without making the hoarse/horse, caught/cot, or cheer/chair mergers.   I end up merging the vowels so they sound the same, I want a recording of some one who pronounces them differently.

plz

...I can understand the others, but how do you even manage that?

Even worse, you pronounce both as "churr".

Ew, sounds like one of those people that pronounce "whale" as "well".

I want to kill those people.

hoarse/horse isn't a merger.  Their homophones.

Hoarse is said the same way as horse.

It's the context that matters.

k, but according to the "official" dilalect that is used in the dictionary (and that I consequently speak in) I'm pretty sure they're homophones.

I was able to make them sound different but I need to concentrate on it, so if I'm talking normally I'm not going to be able to do it.  :'(

Stop being around people with accents. Just keep concentrating on not sounding like whatever you sound like.

Half-breed, that's all I ever heard
Half-breed, how I learned to hate the word
Half-breed, she's no good they warned
Both sides were against me since the day I was born
Gypsies, tramps and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call us gypsies, tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down
