Jesus Nintendo, can't you leave your casual gamer appeal and the hardcore gamer appeal off the same plate? This is Smash Bros. we're talking about. The idea in general is a video game nerd's wet dream. Why did they have to ruin this huge opportunity? If they had added just those two features they could of competed with xbox live.
Nintendo just doesn't care anymore. Did you know that we have less than 5 classic Nintendo series games coming on the Wii this year from Nintendo? That's not much at all. Nintendo is just giving up.
Sorry I just had to post this. It really makes me mad.

Nintendo is thinking about "money" as far as I'm concerned.
My mother decides to play SSBB because she's a casual gamer for example...she runs across a person
with a very "bad" name..Or if "voice" was implemented.... the words that "They" may say could offend her.
My mother makes a complaint. She returns the game and she writes/e mails Nintendo or even threatens to sue Nintendo.
Granted, Voice chat should be used at a persons discretion...but still...
Money is an issue.
Casual gamers will buy a game like SSBB because they stand a chance to play with "Hardcore" gamers, thus meaning
SSBB will sell more which equals more money for Nintendo.
Nintendo cares about it's "fans", but it seems they are trying to reel in casual gamers to sell more merchandise.
There goal is to make as much of everybody as happy as possible.
Nintendo's online fails....
We know this.
But this was their one big chance!
Disappointing really...
And there is voice chat... only with friends codes.
Hmm.....doesn't look good for nintendo...I predict before long, I'm gonna have an Xbox360. D:
Seriously though, if the game's rated "T" Shouldn't parents, or touchy people be aware of the possibilities?
Especially if it's online. Oh well, I don't work for nintendo, so nothing I could do. Probably couldn't do anything anyway.
I say next gen should be hardcore all the way, Graphics, Online, AND features that would attract casuals like the new Wiimote for this gen.
as uch as i wanted voice chat, i have to agree with him.
For example, in Halo 3 we always ninny each other out and swear and all that stuff because we know that the other person isnt some 6 year old who will be scarred by it (well, usually)
he does have a valid point
It's rated teen. Anyone who gets their feelings hurt by a nub on a game connection is spineless.
If we can chat with friends that's fine with me. I don't care about talking to strangers, only beating the tar out of them.
Honestly,I don't really care. I thought the point of games was to actually PLAY them :-\

Try a Wifi USB thing.
They might have some left over.
Or get a router.
I don't really care about voice chat, but I would at least like to see the NAME of the person I'm battling against.
I could end up battling someone from here and not even know it. :-\
Leaderboards would have been nice too. I know I wouldn't be doing too good, but still, its almost like all those battles and no records to show for it.

Plus you download a whole bunch of sh*t off the internet in the wii. you can also cruise the web. how can you say it fails? i have never even played wi-fi (i don't have it) you don't see me complaining. Luckily i be getting it in the summer probably so i can play brawl and other games online.

i assume GCN means gamecube. the gamecube was released before there was online gaming right?
BTW, what happenned to thunderhero and cornwad? did they get suspended or something?
Yes, this was Nintendo's one big chance to get online right. Instead I think they'd rather ahve it for "Mario Kart".
GUH. Nintendo is completely obsessed with Mario and casual gamers. Smash was the single most multiplayer heavey game they had!
Not to mention anything online with no Voice Chat makes the game instanely less accessable. Oh, so some newbies/casual gamers see someone with a nasty name?, who cares!? That's why they have DISCLAIMERS! "Game Experience May Change During Online Play". They have that for a reason. Besides, they could just block Voice to only friends, there PROBLEM SOLVED! But no, Nintendo loves to be technologically inferior to everyone else.
And no, the GCN COULD"VE had online, but again, Nintendo hates things that actually work and help hardcore gamers. (the PS2 has online and it came out TWO YEARS before the GCN!)
Something did mad me off today, a guy who has a japanese Brawl did a video of character comprehension of his movesets and said that Lucario sucks and Sonic is actually perfect in every way possible, but obviously he really doesn't know the advantages we know about all the characters. (He said something offensive about Falco and maybe Wolf too, because he is a Sonic fan)
We should be glad we have online at all.

And to appease the hardcore group to a certain extent. If they had NO online, I'd jumped ship from Nintendo quite a while ago. Seriously, Voice Chat and at least a decent "make random people your firends" thing would make their online at least bearable X_X;;
why would you want to voice chat random strangers? what if michael jackson was on. it would cause a lot of problems.

Technically....
You can use DS headsets to do voice chat...
But...meh
I don't like voice chat to be honest, I mean why buy a microphone and all this crap to talk to a stranger who'll probably end up trash talking you anyway, when I can just call my friend up who I actually want to talk to and just do it like that.

Nintendo is still living in the dark. They had the potential to have leaderboards and voice chat but they were afraid of hurting casual gamers and their feelings.
It really makes me mad.
nintendo's online doesen't fail. voice chat isn't a big deal. as long as you can play the game online with other people it's cool. Plus you download a whole bunch of sh*t off the internet in the wii. you can also cruise the web. how can you say it fails? i have never even played wi-fi (i don't have it) you don't see me complaining. Luckily i be getting it in the summer probably so i can play brawl and other games online.
no voice chat=who cares?
Friend Codes.
That is all.
Also, this is 2008. Any online multiplayer game that doesn't have voice chat is behind the times.
uh, if you want to chat, go on these forums like we're doing now. i say actually playing the game online is 100 times more important than voice chat. And didn't Wi-Fi gaming come out the same time the DS did? That wasn't too long ago. Next everyone is gonna want picture chat on online gaming.
Online gaming became popular and affordable with the launch of Xbox Live in 2002.
Lack of online was a reason why the GCN failed.
i assume GCN means gamecube. the gamecube was released before there was online gaming right?
BTW, what happenned to thunderhero and cornwad? did they get suspended or something?
Thunderhero said to me over Xbox Live he was mad off at someone (I think Chris) and that he doesn't want to post here for awhile.
Cornwad is here ;D

I'm sure all these meaningless complaints will end when you all are actually playing the game. You'll realize that not chatting with stangers isn't gonna make this game a piece of crap.

i don't see why people want to voice chat random strangers. even if it did happen it would run into legal problems like threats, profanity, etc.
Threats and profanity are legal problems? :|
There's a feature that is usually with voice chat called "mute". They could of also added that.
There are also disclaimers for that exact reason...

Ummm... How about this?
Why don't we all be mature, and not complain. What are we, 5 year olds?
"WAHHH!!! WHY DOESN'T NINTENDO HAVE VOICE CHAT AND LEADERBOARDS!!! I WANT IT NOW!!!!"
- That is literally what you sound like right now.
I'm sick of all this complaining... I own a 360, and I know the advantages of voice chat, but I also know the disadvantages. I don't want some nerd that lives with his mom to be yelling into my ear when I'm whooping his butt in Call of Duty 4... If this ever does happen, I simply take off the headsets for the reason that it becomes so bloody annoying.
Besides, I hear that Nintendo is already having a headset + mic under the wraps, so just cool your jets people... Geez...
I think this is the reason for my recent absence from NSider... So many complainers. I can't believe Mods allow this.

Now that I think about it, a game like this doesn't need voice chat. The point of voice chat is to communicate with people on your team like in an FPS.
However, this is the kind of game that would be perfect for a leaderboard.

I thik smash is more for playing with friends and siblings. I couldn't care less about being ranked depending on how you play against others including nerds and forty year old men. This is a fact. 25 percent of gamers are over the age of 50. That is scary. Think of how much are under 50.
