Title: The Red Sox...
Post by: Red on July 31, 2008, 02:25:27 PM
Finally traded Manny. For Jason Bay. Bay is having the better season, and has more years in him, but I liked Manny. Your reactions?

Don't care...
I think this was just to get rid of the headache.
The Red Sox aren't any better, and the Dodgers aren't particularly better either.
And the Pirates got a whole lot worse...just before they play the Cubs. Heh heh heh

Go CUBS. SWEEEEEEEEP!
We can't lose in Wrigley North!

:O
I didn't hear about this yet as I've been gone all day.
I too liked Manny better, but it probably is for the better.

stats are fairly similar.
Manny is a few points better in BA and OBP, while Bay has 2 more homeruns.
Fairly even trade IMO...at least stats wise.

Wow, I didn't think there would be so many people who care at all.

I personally detest all major "professional" sports and find it the lowest form of entertainment (lower than _____ Movie movies).  But that's just me.

Some professional sports I can stand, others, I cannot.  I cannot stand baseball.

I'd rather watch people drive in circles for 500 miles than watch 2+ hours of guys just standing around and 20 minutes of people actually moving.  probably more like 10 minutes.  it's darn boring.

Hockey.
Football.
Basketball.
Tennis.
Soccer.

Hell, Golf.

all fun sports to watch, because they're all broad casted well.  Baseball is boring as hell 95% of the time.

I can agree on hockey, football, and basketball. Maybe tennis.
But soccer, most of the game they're just running around after the ball. It takes them forever to even score. Plus the lamest plays get put on SportsCenter's top 10. Some guy dove the wrong way but knicked the ball with his foot, and they put that on there... that was just luck.
Golf is pretty boring to watch, to me anyways.

Golf is boring unless Tiger is playing...otherwise it's just a bunch of old guys playing some rounds X_X;; (not to say they're all old but you get my point).
Soccer is the single most boring sport I've ever had to watch. I really don't know what the rest of the world sees in this sport. There is hardly any scoring, and most of it comes from luck. It's just hours of skinny guys running up and down a field for a ball. At least baseball requires skill on every play that is actually made (meaning, I may not be able to score, but even I can run up and down a field chasing after a ball)

you're generalizing it.  each player has their role, whether to guard others or to set up plays.  thats like saying that "even I can skate up and down the ice chasing the puck!".

the field is too big IMO, makes it kinda boring, but meh, the rest of the world loves it, why change a winning formula?

golf requires skill in every stroke.  if you're relying on luck in soccer, you'll never score.  same with hockey.

baseball, though it may require skill, is boring as hell to watch.

I never said Golf had no skill, golf is one of the hardest sports I've ever tried X_X;; It's just boring to watch without Tiger there.

If there is skill in soccer it never shows because it seems like complete randomness at all the time. British announcer: "What a beutiful block by sweedish person!"
Um...he just ran into him and it happend to knock the ball away... @_@;;

False. If the hitter hits the ball all the way to the right field, or out of the park on the right side, please tell me what the left fielder does during that play.

Hint: It doesn't require skill, that's for darn sure.

And I would rather watch Soccer than baseball. At least soccer does require the skill of running and not standing in the field for 4 hours, running about 20 min of that 4 hours, and hitting 5 minutes of that 4 hours. And eating sunflower seeds and cheering for 3 of the 4 hours. Soccer players can 1-up you on that their sport is more athletic and physical. I hate both sports equally, but baseball is hella more boring to watch.

Shit, I'd rather watch curling.

Baseball requires a lot of skill.  Do you know how hard it is to hit a 90 mph ball with a bat like that???  Even if the left fielder doesn't move during one play, he still has to hit.

Soccer also requires massive amounts of skill and it's definitely not luck when someone scores.  The entire sport is exhausting, and the footwork and power allotted to dribble and shoot are definitely not something that a lot of people have.

Curling is really hard too...=P

His argument was that baseball required skill on EVERY PLAY, of which it does not. The left fielder has to hit, but not during that play. During that play he's just thinking about what color he wants his third Escalade to be.

Not every play for every person. And don't try to reverse it saying that it does for every soccer player. The goalie is only involved some of the time and I can see on plays where some players are basically just running in circles.
Oh, and most baseball players are THAT well paid. Mid to Low teir baseball players make about 200,000 - 500,000 a year, depending on the team. Yea, it's more than the rest of us but not enough to own three escalades XD

Soccer players still use more physicality than baseball. The goalie is the one exception, but I bet they have been regular players at one time in their life. Of the two terrible sports, soccer is still better than baseball.

And, yes they could easily afford 3 escalades. They run anywhere from $60,000 to $80,000 unless you get 32 inch rims or a jet propulsion engine on them. And maybe they have already bought two from the previous ten years of playing baseball standing around. You ever think of that?!??! They don't have to buy them all in one year, you know.

Just sayin...and same goes to the soccer players in Europe (professional atheletes in Europe get their taxes PAID FOR BY THE GOV!). So those guys are still making a pretty penny.

Looks like we have no choice but to agree to disagree. However, I would like to see some soccer players try baseball. There are quite a few latino baseball players who played a bit of soccer as well...(minor league soccer for fun tho)

Oh well then.

I would rather see an Escalade with 32 inch rims and a jet propulsion engine.... :D
