List off some of your favorite/hated video game clich?s, that are probably overused.
I'll edit them into one big list.
Here are mine:
- The best weapon can only be used by your lead member.
- The hidden pitfall is just before you reach your goal.
- The friend dies.
- The dead friend isn't really dead.
- The dead friend who isn't really dead saves your ass at the last minute.
- The dead friend who isn't really dead and saved your ass at the last minute dies.
- Everyone knows you're the chosen one and must kill the unstoppable villain, yet they still need to explain how to tell you how to jump and use your weapon.
And all of yours:
- The main character in an RPG is always a skinny, whiny white guy.
- Having dark, mysterious characters in each game.
- Shadow The Hedgehog himself is a clich?. (??)

WHADOW THE WEDGEDOG.
...I don't know... O_O
Having dark, mysterious characters in each game.
You looked at TV Tropes, didn't you?
Anyway, it's the dark mysterious character for me.
Nope. Was browsing an old forum I visited and found the same topic, and re-used my post from then here.
Link me to the tropes?
Getting amnesia.
(loss of memory)
The final epic weapon is useless in its current sate once found.
No matter what is happening in the world at the time, there's always time to do a sidequest; that meteor isn't going to move until you think you're ready for it ::)
The princess has been captured by <villian>, and you must save her.
Stars.
I feel shiggeru for trying to make the Mario series stick to something...but you can at least try a different object to collect!

Something similar to that, unless there's an actual time limit, you have all the time in the world to save it.
One of your friends was or will be evil.
You can almost always chit-chat during battle, and your opponents remain motionless until your ready.
some villain in the game at some point or another, is either your brother, sister, or father.
you cannot die from an endless abyss; you instantly respawn at the last door you entered.
The main boss is almost unbeatable without the ultimate weapon.
That if the main bad guy has a bunch of monsters/people under his control, why doesn't he just send them all at the "chosen one" and kill him, since he's the only one that can stop them.
Any why don't they just make the dungeon's unwinnable, so the hero can't do anything.
Princesses. Lots of them.
And oversexied chicks.
You won't die if you fall down a bottomless chasm.
You're the last hope for the world, your village, the universe, and all that jazz. But you still have to pay full price for that armor, regardless of how important you are.
Saving the princess.
The main character usually carries around a BFG or a BFS.
Deadly Useless Character (Don't ask.)
I just remembered these now.
Mario: No matter how tough they are, 3 hits will kill the boss.
I always find there to be a "haunted" level in a lot of games, along with some other types.
The cool, reserved man is always the father of the skinny, whiny white kid.

lol, fable
lol, ToS
Collect all of these thingies and something will happen.
If it's a Mario RPG, you automatically know you will collect something related to stars and if it's Paper Mario, 7 of them (Super Paper Mario only gets the 7 rule, stars doesn't apply).
You and rival/main enemy team up.
Sonic
Mario
Pokemon
Crash Bandicoot
Kirby
Just to name a few
Always has to get a amazing powerful weapon to win the game.
After the enemy does something, some number of times,he either stops moving or shows you his weak spot for some amount of time, then he gets a new move.
In the first game you unlock all the weapons, gain all the ability's,get all the power ups and open all the worlds. But in the sequel you forget everything, lose every thing and the worlds close up again.
You can get shot many times before getting killed.
You can jump while your in the air.
The bad guy in the game needs to kill you to destroy the world, when he kills you you end up coming back to life.
Every villain has a evil laugh.
In a city, you can find weapons on the ground,IN A CITY!!
People never seem to lock their cars.
No matter how many times you kill the final boss he ends up coming back in the next game.
After the many times you have thwarted a bad guys plan he makes a new one and still thinks you can't stop him.

Pokemon
When?
Don't you team up with the Rival in D/P, or am I thinking of Rowan's assistant?
Japanese games that have villains with glasses, whom you can always tell are evil when their eyes aren't visible behind their glasses, and their evilness always comes as a huge shock to everyone else. See Kristoph Gavin, many anime-based games.
Evil corporations. See Shinra, Black Mesa, Aperture Science, etc., etc., etc.
One-sided villains whose motives are never explained and seem to do destructive things simply to be evil or because they want powwwwwerrrrrrrrrrr, unlimited poooooooooowwwwwwweeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr. (Doing it for their own amusement because they're psychotic, a la Majora's Mask don't count).
Female characters that are one-sided archetypes (Aeris/Fina as the quiet spellcaster, Yuffie/Aika as the ADD-stricken cheerleader, Peach/Kairi as the clueless/naive damsel in distress, etc.). It's annoying enough with males, but it's especially bad with girls, being that very few are lead protagonists or even major characters.

98% of games have lava in some form or way.

There's no rival. And no one teams up with Galaxy either.
