Sakurai playing a local tournament winner. Really, he's not great at all. I expected a lot more from the creator himself...but maybe he was holding back?
Still, I think a shot at playing Sakurai would be pretty cool, and would take it. Surprised he didn't play as a Kirby character though.
Anyways, would you challenge Sakurai to a match? And could you beat him? I honestly think I could, based on that.
at least he won...
he's admitted he's rather bad at smash, but he's better at smash than Miyamoto is at Mario (seriously, Miyamoto is freakin horrible at videogames).
If I got to play Sakurai, I'd play as Metaknight to show him how unbalanced he is in the game. Oh, and LOL ITEMS!
Finally, I'm amazed at how young Sakurai still is. I forgot he was only 19 when he joined HAL and helped make Kirby's Adventure...

Maybe he was taking it easy on her because 1) she was a girl and 2) she wasn't anything spectacular either, so he didn't want to make her look altogether bad.
But seriously, I doubt those. I've seen really good players try to "take it easy" on less advanced players, and have done it myself, and I can tell you, it's not easy. Holding back in a game like Brawl can be difficult sometimes, especially if you've trained yourself to react to your opponent's actions. If he was trying to hold back, he would at least have thrown in a slightly more advanced tech in there once in a while. Based on what we see here, I can tell you Sakurai was definitely not holding back (then again, we didn't get to watch the whole match...), so yeah, he's nothing too special (disappointing). Ganondorf also seemed like an odd choice for him to choose, but who am I to judge? ;D
Yeah, his age surprised me, too. I though he was a lot older than that, but he's still extremely young. O_o Oh yeah, and Sudden Death on a stock match? Kinda cool ending for going against Saurai. 8)
I would FAIL. I'm really not that good at Brawl. I have really bad reactions too.
But in the end, yes, I would play him.

I believe he was a staff artist on assignment like Miyamoto was in 1978, although Miyamoto had graduated college at that point. Sakurai was just kinda there for some reason... I got my age wrong, he was about 22 I think. He was 19 when he made the character designs for Kirby, DDD, and Metaknight in college...
I wouldv'e murdered that Ganon. Why can't I be the champion?
wait, that girl is a tournament winner?

Local tournament winner, to be exact. I know, I was surprised too, but it didn't specify where "local" is, unless I forgot what the description said. Either way, yeah, she won the tournament and got to go up against Sakurai as a surprise present, I guess. Yoiy!
nice OLF steal lol
and yeah he blows
I think if I made a game the last thing I would want to do is play it, but maybe he was holding back.
I'm sure most people here could take him. I don't think I'd beat him really badly...I mean...maybe I would let him win one...idk.

It's about time I take a thread from OLF for here, I too often take threads from here for there.

You'd think like a pro would get that chance. I wish they showed the whole match. It was kind of weird how it turned out to end in a sudden death in a stock battle. I mean, what are the odds? He looked like he was gonna yoga kick that crate and kill himself but he was facing the wrong way. I do think he was going easy.
Does anyone else realize that the rainbow ball on the commentators' desk is a real life Smash Orb? That's freakin sweet; I wish they sold those!

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Weird choice to do, but he failed at it whatever he was planning on doing. So... that means he failed at commiting suicide? O.O
Probably intentionally bad to create suspense for the camera. Or, he just isn't good at the game. Looked like a tv show. I have no clue.
Even though the girl lost, she got the honor of fighting Sakurai, which is pretty cool.
I'm pretty sure he was holding back. But anyway, I would fight him if I get the chance, and if he plays like that I think I could win. But if he is better than that... I think I could make it close or win.
I surely would play against him. If he was not holding back, than I think I could beat him. :D

Yeah pretty much. It's really hard to see if he was holding back or not. I wish they showed the whole match.
I don't know if I would play him, he's probably better than that.
But maybe not. Just because he made the game doesn't mean he's good.
I think I could beat him. He doesn't look THAT good, so yeah.
I would play with either Ness, Lucas, Lucario, Luigi, Mario, Jigglypuff, Mr. Game & Watch, Kirby, Pit, Samus, Peach, Toon Link, Fox, Wolf, or Ice Climbers. >:D

I'm sure all of us here could beat him. He's said he's not good at Smash in any way, and he doesn't play it that often. Just with people who know him well and when they feel like playing.
In fact, of all the big name Japanese game designers, only Kojima is actually known as a good gamer himself (Miyamoto and Naka are surprisingly bad at their own games, although Naka is far better since he was a programmer, and ended up play testing a lot in his early days)

I would actually play as Dedede, the character he used his own voice for, just to add a bit more heat to the burn. ;D

I'd think he'd be glad.
"See, MY character is way better than these other Nintendo characters!"
Seriously you guys?
Creators of games don't become pro at their games. They make it for money, not for their entertainment. I highly doubt he's like you guys and spends half of every day training.

Still, it's just kind of funny to think that someone sucks at their own game.

Not really, but whatever floats your boat.
If I ever made a game, I would make sure I knew that game inside and out. I would make sure NOBODY beat me at that game.

Most times, that's easier said than done. I'm sure Sakurai knows Brawl inside and out, or at least better than most people, but again, that doesn't mean he's the best at it. There are several people out there who play Brawl every single day. Also, Sakurai has other important things to work on.

But the thing about it is, I'm 98% sure you will never create a worthwhile console game, or maybe not even a console game, or not even a game at all, so with that said, you wouldn't have much competition.
Sakurai: *laughs*
