As the amazing Jake told you, Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 is available to the public. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx) Lots of people were surprised to learn that RC1 is legit until June 1, 2010. It's important to note that a few months before it expires, this install of Windows 7 will become annoying as hell. Microsoft noted:
"Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you'll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You'll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use. "
Certainly some people be in a huff about this, but what did you expect? You're getting a fairly stable of Windows 7 for free and it doesn't expire until June 2010. Microsoft didn't release RC1 to the public out of altruism; the company wants people to upgrade to Windows 7 or buy PCs loaded with Windows 7. Personally, I think it's a pretty funny control -- auto-shutdown every two hours? That's hilarious! I'm also sure that some enterprising hacker will find a way around it.
-----------
Why you do this?
That's inherently stupid, but it's Microsoft so what do you expect?
And yes, some hacker will have that problem solved in a matter of days... no problem...
Kind of like how in Windows 7 Starter Edition, you can only have a max of 3 apps open at once.
Here come the cracks...
Somebody will find a way around it.
But it's a good thing to use. It'll make people want to get the full version, if they liked it until the 2 hour shut downs.
QuoteI'm also sure that some enterprising hacker will find a way around it.
Microsoft is sure making it easy for the bad guys.
I want Windows 7.
Eh. I'd look forward to Windows 7, but I'd no longer have hardware acceleration for sound, which sounds a lot better than the software-rendered stuff. :( Even if they do have Creative ALchemy for 7, chances are that their darned headset drivers won't work. :\
Wait, So Vista is already out dated?

Wait, So Vista is already out dated?
Well......no, not quite yet.
I assume that 7 will be out in 2010
I'm probably getting Windows 7 early...
Connections.
However, I've had XP for my entire computer going life...
Will be hard to move off of it.

There is no such thing as up to date in the computer world.

What about Macs?

Those are even more outdated.
At least in my experience they run more efficiently.
But really it's all planned obsolescence, so nothing is ever up to date under any circumstances unless you work for the freaking pentagon X_X:;

It runs everything I need it to run ::)
But yea, I know Macs run a whole lot less than PC's do. I just hate this stupid war that really doesn't even exist.
My elementary school still has a couple of 1988 Macintosh's in one of the labs ^_^

It's already estimated to potentially be released later this year IIRC.

I don't know. I went to vote there in the fall and I took a quick look around and saw two or three of them still sitting there. God those things were terrible. All they had was Math Blaster, Super Solvers Reading, and Oregon Trail... X_X:;

Oregon Trail is the best game ever.
