Title: Video Game Genres - Your Skill Level When It Comes To Them
Post by: Doodle on June 27, 2009, 04:22:16 PM
There are those kinds of games we're just beastly at, no one can stop us.
Then there's the kind we can't play at all, even if our lives depended on it.
And of course there's the middle ground.

When you play different genres of video games, which ones do you excel at? What are the ones you just can't play at all?

I'm pretty good at most platformers. From the FPS games that I've played, I would say I'm above average, too.
But fighting games...ugh. I suck at fighting games for some reason. :\

I'm ok at all genres. Except Tetris-isque games.

I'm pretty good at RTS games and mediocre at FPS......true fighting games (not smash bros) I suck at.

I'm above average, but not super duper good, on FPS game like CoD, except in the mode that I don't play a lot of like Search & Destroy for example.
I can go on for however long I want in Tetris.
Fighter games like Soul Caliber are hard for me to win in. Darn button mashers!  =P
I hate RTS games like AoE and Halo Wars. I don't ever play them more than once.
Platformers are easier for me along with some turn base RPGs. Other turn base games have a lot of fight were I get stuck at. *looks at FFX*

I'm okay at all FPS games. Except for some. I'm above average at TF2, I guess.
I'll kick your ass at rhythm games where you don't have to use your legs. I'm not super awesome at DDR. :(
I'm pretty okay at strategy games EXCEPT FOR FUCKING FIRE EMBLEM OH MY FUCKING GOD I HATE THE WAY THAT PLAYS OUT ONCE YOUR PEOPLE ARE GONE THEY ARE GONE FOREVER I'M A SACRIFICE KIND OF GUY DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND
I'd call myself good at the rest.

On a side note:
DOODLE
Wii FPS isn't real FPS. Go play with people on COD5 that are above the age of 7. .-.

Erm:

Rhythm: Shit tier. Totally.
FPS: Average, at best. BOOM HEADSHOT. Oh intercourse  I died oh god why ;-;
RPG/RTS: Once again, average. I get bored easily, so it depends on completion.
Fighting/Beat Em Up: I'm a bit above average. I'm darn good at CV Judgment, SCIV, SF, MadWorld, etc. But Brawl and others...eh.
Platformer: Average. I didn't die in Galaxy...oh...right

PUZZLE: GOD FUCKING TIER SON. My favorite gaming genre, by far. I love puzzle games, and as a result, I kick ass at tetris, PPL, Brick, etc.

I'm fairly decent on FPS's on the PC(Especially HL2:DM, I love setting off the "BOOM HEADSHOT" sound and I'm almost expert at sniping at extreme distances in that game too.

I'm pretty awesome at DDR, and other Rhythm games

RPG's okay

Strategy, I like them and all, but I don't have close to the patients or attention span for them so I'm not all that good...

FPS: Meh, average. Then again, I've only played...three FPS titles.
RacingMario Kart: Great...but meh when compared to most here.
Platformer: One of my best.
RPG: For the most part it depends on what RPG. Oh God, I'm so underleveled and I can't beat this boss...
Fighting: I suck at most fighting games, with the exception of Smash.
Action/Adventure: Another one of my best.
Strategy: See RPG.
Shoot 'em up: FLY AWAY FROM THE BULLETS, FLY, FL-F***, SOMEONE CRASHED INTO ME AAAAAAAA
Rhythm: Average.

Platformers: 10, I'm ungodly at platformers. I think my best time on the original Mario Bros. is about 12 minutes.
Racing: 7/10 I'm okay at them. Not great, but once I get into a groove I'm pretty tough to beat.
Puzzle: 5/10 depends on the game mostly
rhythm: I suck at rhythm games. Although I'm okay at GH and Rock Band, only because I'm a musician myself and actually know how to keep a good beat unlike so many other people I know.
Fighting: good but not great.
Everything else: meh.

Games I'm not good at: Platformers. x( And Rythem games.

Platforming: (5)
I'm usually very good at platformers.
FPS: (6)
I guess...I haven't really a lot fps recently so I'm not sure.
Puzzle: (7)
These are fun also.
Action/Adventure: (9)
meh...
RPG: See SkyMyl

Rhythm: Pretty good, except for ddr and overcharted stepmania files.
FPS: okay.
RTS: pretty bad.
Platforming: Good.
Racing: If it's F-Zero GX I'm pretty good ;o Mario Kart is too luck based ;o
Fighting: I suck. If it's at an arcade I'd usually button mash.
Puzzle: pretty good.

Rhythm: Pretty good.
FPS: Pure poop.
RTS: Not very good.
Platforming: Rape.
Racing: Pretty good.
Fighting: Okay only at Smash Bros.
Puzzle: Rape.

I'm pretty good at platformers.  And Animal Crossing.  I did decent in Brawl yesterday, but got raped by users on here.
Title: Re: Video Game Genres - Your Skill Level When It Comes To Them
Post by: Dog Food on June 28, 2009, 08:27:53 AM
FPS: Yeah, no. Maybe it's because I'm not used to 360 controllers, but whenever I play those kinds of games at my friend's house or with my cousins, I always suck. I'm getting better at TF2, but still get killed more often than I kill (but I usually get at least one kill in... Except this one time where I was getting raped because I kept on respawning when I died in one of the spots, but people from the other team were standing there waiting for me and every time I came back someone shot me before I even had a chance to do poop ;-;).
Rhythm: Mediocre. I get bored quickly with games like GH and RB. Too much repetition.
Platformers: I'm alright. Usually I try and go very fast and end up dying quickly. But when I take my time and go through a game that I like, I'm good. It all depends on whether I get bored and abandon it before I'm done...
Racing: I don't really play racing games. I'm more for Free-for-All rather than sticking to a set track and going down it. I'd say a little less than average?
Fighting: Button smashing games I'm not that great. But fighting games like Brawl I'd say I'm pretty good at. I'm the best out of everyone I know in real life, at least.
Puzzle: I'm good at puzzles, and it's also one of my favorites. I have Tetris on my phone and I play it whenever I get bored :)
RPGs: I'm good at these, and also like them a lot. Games where you get to choose what you do and suffer your own fate have always interested me.
Strategy: I'm good at strategy games. RPGs and Strategy games I play a lot online, so I get the practice.

Title: Re: Video Game Genres - Your Skill Level When It Comes To Them
Post by: えっちーせんぱい on June 28, 2009, 11:55:06 AM
Racing: "Why'd you overlap me? ;-; "
DDR: "lol what you nerd"
RPG's: "Wait you can do that in here?"

I don't play much else, I'm quite bored of most games now, except for a few.
Title: Re: Video Game Genres - Your Skill Level When It Comes To Them

Rhythm: Pretty bad.  Hand cramps on Guitar Hero and lack of coordination in DDR.
FPS: Pretty good.  I'm not pro, though.
RTS: Not good at all.  I can't micromanage for crap.
Platforming: Really good, imo.  Been playing these since childhood.
Racing: I'm pretty good, this being one of my favorites.
Fighting: I button mash, but I still have fun.
Puzzle: I'm usually pretty good depending on the game.

I'm good at FPSs, racing, puzzle, action/adventure, some platformers, and arcade games.

Turn based RPGs are another story. I suck at them, only when it's real time do I do good at them.

Arcade: SUCK
FPS: More SUCK than good
RPG: I'm good.(How can you not be unless you can't do basic Math?)
Strategy(FE, Advance Wars things) Loltastic
RTS: I'm fine

I suck more than I do good unfortunately. I know the reason is because I have horrible finger reflexes.

I'm a pro at Tetris, probably because I played it all the time when I got bored in class. Most other games I feel like I'm a pro at eventually, then I play someone with no life, and then I'm like "Damn, I suck".

Platformers: AWESOME!
FPS: pretty good.
Tetris-esque games: pretty good too
Anything else except for guitar hero-esque games: good
Guitar Hero-esque games: decent.  Can't go above medium with the guitars, or I risk totally phailing.

RPG: lolok
Shooters: Pretty good
FPS: Slightly above average. I make a good Rambo with my handy double barrel. :B
Puzzle: I can own Tetris, but not much else.
Platformer: More or less pretty above average
Racing: More or less above average
SSB: Super win overall, but I can't super-awesome-own with a single character. Just super own or awesome own with Kirby. :D
Guitar Hero/Rock Band: TOTAL COMPLETE WIN. There is no denying that I'm probably around 2nd here behind GM for overall mad skillz in Rock Band.
