For those not paying attention, the Club Nintendo year ends after June 30th.
BEFORE YOU REGISTER YOUR SHIT
Look here:
https://club.nintendo.com/coin-values.do
Some registration values are decreasing, such as the DSi/DSiXL (from 160 to 100 coins) and some aged Wii and DS games (by 10-30 coins).
The Wii Nintendo Selects (excluding Pikmin 2 NPC) are all decreasing from 50 coins to 20 coins each. (Protip: If you have registered the originals, you can still register the "Selects" titles. Buy the Selects pins off ebay and register them now. Do NOT do the surveys until July, unless you really need the coins now).
3DS post play surveys will be decreased from 20 coins to 10 coins. Some 3DS shop games will be decreased from 10 coins to 5 coins (lol wut?).
However, some games will have increased value. The main Pokemon games (D/P/Pl/HG/SS/B/W) will be increased to 40 coins each. Certain 3DS games (mostly, if not all, first party) will be increased to 40 coins.
Also, from what the chart says, the only Wii game to increase in coin value is Wii Fit, from 80 to 100 coins.
TL;DR, Club Nintendo year is ending June 30th, go click that link and use judgment on which games to register if you haven't registered games and still need Platinum status, as some redemption values will be changing.
Gosh dang it, this is my first year to not qualify for at least Gold... and apparently I only did one of the Ambassador post-play surveys. :(
On the up-side (sorta), I completely forgot to register Kid Icarus: Uprising, so once this upcoming year begins I can immediately start with some new coins.
I think the reason I didn't qualify this year is because I've bought mostly used titles, plus I think this may have been the ONLY year since it started that I didn't register a new system.
I've got platinum. I had 210 coins expiring and nothing appealed to me, so I got Donkey Kong posters.
Already at platinum, and I think only 100 coins or so expiring. I'd need to check.
Those changes start July 1st. If you have coins and are close to Platinum, go ahead and register them.

However, a few items might be worth holding off on (if possible), like the Pokemon games or first party 3DS games.
I have 520 coins, not sure what I want to get, thinking of that Animal Crossing fan. That Game & Watch is cool, but I've seen people sell it on eBay for $40. May seem like a lot, but when you consider how much you would spend on games to get to that point...
Somewhat mad I already registered Pokemon Pearl, Platinum, and HeartGold right before this announcement. Oh well, hopefully the platinum reward is neat.

Last year's was pretty lame
Been meaning to register Uprising for weeks now. I guess now I'll wait a bit more. I also bought HeartGold and White recently and haven't registered them, so I'll wait a bit on those too.
This also means I need to get off my ass and register a poopton of Wii games I never got around to (DKCR, Skyward Sword, probably even Galaxy 2, however long ago that came out).
Thanks for the reminder.
Got Platinum. Hopefully this year's gift is good.

Edit: Wait, do you mean two years ago? Last year we got a Mario button set.
it's been two years? dangit

Yup. I don't even remember getting Platinum last year O_o I got the pins/buttons and thought to myself "lol wut? Why did I get these?"
I have Platinum ever since six months ago. I held off whatever I purchased after that to stay ahead in the next year.

I hope so. It'd be nice to have something really cool like that. The button set was lame. I don't even know what I did with it.

Mine's in my closet with the rest of my Club Nintendo rewards. That statue was pretty cool though.

Seem like all the good rewards are out of stock (3DS game case, 3DS Mario Pouch, Zelda Posters -- good thing I got some for my sister a few months ago). Do I want the DK posters, the Giant AR Card, or save up for the speculated Kirby rewards coming out later this year?
If they're not expiring, save up.
You can print a giant AR card, that's a waste.
DK posters are pretty boss, I got them.
I'm really hoping some good items come out this coming year, cause I'm pretty sure a majority of my coins are going to expire afterwards.
Worse comes to worse though, hopefully I'll get a cool platinum prize.

A Platinum Calendar!
I'm totally new to Club Nintendo, so like
In order for me to get Platinum status next year, I have to get 600 *new* coins, any coins left from this year don't contribute to the gold/platinum counters, right?
That would be correct.
In that case, since I just hit Platinum, I might as well save the rest of my Wii games and post-registration surveys that expire in two weeks until afterwards.
So, I just hit Platinum. When can I get the Platinum award, again? Have they announced what it is?

Apparently they don't announce it until after the year's end.
Gold/Platinum Rewards not yet announced, but the new games this month are:
Mario Tennis, N64 (Wii)
Electroplankton Rec-Rec, DSiWare (3DS)
Why does it say I only have Gold when I have 630 coins and had that on June 28th?

I found Electroplankton for $15, the original DS one.
Not spending my points on that...

Do you mean the bar in the top right corner?
If yes, that's 2013's Status. Click "Account", go to "Coins and Status" and scroll down.

It said I had platinum for 2012 a few days ago. My history says I had 630 coins on June 28th. Yet, it says I have 590 coins for 2012. Giving me gold status, not platinum.

if this don't help idk
I did that. It says I have Gold Status, despite exceeding the number needed. I emailed Nintendo about it.
Whelp. Maybe something got refunded? Somewhere in your account it lists everything you've registered. Go check that.
Fuuuuck... Pikmin 2 is now only worth 30 coins (since 01 July). Damn it Nintendo...
Why does Pokemon Conquest have an asterisk in the "+40*" thing... is it gonna increase or decrease? I'm not sure if I should register it yet.
Well the Club Nintendo year has already ended, so you should pretty much register whatever you have.

Knowing my luck, if I register it now the coin reward will go up right after.
Just realized I shouldn't have held off on doing my 3DS post-play surveys. That's 30 more coins I could have had. Oh well.
EDIT: Just concluded: The +10 bonus for registering Pokemon Conquest is active due to it being less than 4 weeks from the game's release. The value will drop to 30 in less than two weeks.
The rewards have been announced over at IGN. Platinum has two different options this time, though. http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/06/club-nintendos-2012-platinum-and-gold-prizes-revealed
Platinum:
- Three posters = Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and a new LoZ: Skyward Sword posters.
- A stylish set of Mario-themed Poker cards.
Gold:
- An exclusive calendar!
Alternative:
- In case you dislike all of the previous prizes, you can get a free downloadable game for free. Those are Super Mario Kart, Majora's Mask, Metroid II: Return of Samus, or M&D Minis's March Again. You may only choose one, though.
intercourse ing
lame
I'm... kind of disappointed. The most attractive option on there for me would be Majora's Mask... but I can play that on my Wii anyway via the GCN disc.
Meh, I'm not sure what to get.

the games being there are an insult. they were rewards for 150 tokens a few months ago, not 600.
That is just pathetic Nintendo. Posters and playing cards are basically what normal rewards are, and the calendar is always a waste of time. Or you can purchase games that are beyond easily emulateable!
How come Japan always gets cool poop while we get hosed every step of the way?
...Are you poopting me? I didn't think that the rewards could get any lamer than those pins they gave out last year...
I was considering the cards (because they looked like they were plastic for a second), but I guess I'll have to pick the posters. Choice between a vagina cleaning device and a turd sandwich anyone? I GUESS I can't complain though, as this is technically free, but for those that actually spent the money on games for the reward must feel really ripped off right about now.
Japan's gotten Wii Remote TV controllers, polo shirts, pins, exclusive games, and gold Nunchucks.
We get paper. Lots and lots of paper.
...I'm already 40 coins away from getting Platinum in 2013.
I wonder if it'll even be worth it.

Edit: Hard refreshed FireFox and it's back up.
Man, I want that barrel puzzle.

I want an Uprising soundtrack and a gold Nunchuck/CCPro D:
I think I''m gonna go for the playing cards, though.
I guess I'll settle with the cards. I was really hoping for another figure.
I got the posters. At least those won't be sold in stores. Sure, the cards look cool but I can get any deck of cards pretty much anywhere for like a dollar. <_<;;
I would've preferred a few soundtrack options for Platinum or so. Because for Ocarina of Time they apparently had no problem just giving those away...

why would anyone ever want a downloadable version over a hard copy though

Save space if you really don't like lending games. Besides, no matter what happens, your download won't be lost to petty accidents in the real world...unless you overwrote the system's memory.

Same. I absolutely LOVE having a physical collection of games. I'd much rather hunt down a copy of an old GameBoy era game I wanted to play than emulate it.
I sincerely hope video games never go full digital.
On a side note: Less than a month in, and I'm already Platinum for 2013. Yaaaaaaay. Might as well hold off on registering any more games I get this year so I'll have something for 2014, since at this point I've finally gotten coins for every single eligible product I own.

Won't happen for a long time, even if everyone had fast enough Internet. ISPs throttle and hate heavy-downloaders, the conflict between them and game companies will hold an all-digital future off for a little while longer.

except this is already how phone media works, and mobile data is significantly more expensive and harshly capped and nobody gives a poop.
it would not surprise me in the least if the wii u ends up being the last disc based console.

Apparently Sony looked into download-only for the PS4, but decided against it:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303640104577436261084921778.html (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303640104577436261084921778.html)
Not sure about Microsoft, but Sony is obviously sticking with it. Maybe if the US were as wired as South Korea it would be viable right now, but too many people have Internet that is too slow.
