Title: I Think my School Tracks Kids on the Net
Post by: ZGDK on November 22, 2007, 04:15:58 PM
My mom may not be overprotective, but my town certaintly is.

I know my school tracks us.  They admit it, and they have rules posted on the walls.  If a teacher reports you, the admins will actually ban you from the school computers.

Mine do. (school)

There are cheesy posters that say

"Big Brother is Watching"

and the like.

I'm pretty sure that ours does, but it's not like it matters.  They aren't going to ban you for playing games, they'll just block the game sites.  they can lock down computers individually with a demonic program called Synchroneyes (though it's really easy to avoid, you can get kicked off the system/suspended/expelled for doing so).

Mine does too, but it's not like they're going to punish us for it.  They may make a mention of it, but they don't ever punish us for something that we've gone wrong on the internet.

I bet every teacher has tracked down at least one of their students on myspace or facebook.

Besides, I've been to 7chan at school (which surprisingly they don't block), and nothing bad happened to me.

My parents don't really care, as long as I don't look at porn.

My school, on the other hand, actually has us sign an "Internet Safety form" telling us that they watch what we do on the Internet.

Same with us.

They have the pooptiest site block system, too.

TO WIKIPEDIA

Seriously, one day IT WAS BLOCKED FOR FREAKING PORNOGRAPHY

My science teacher complained, evidently a group of kids looked up the following:

Breasts
Penis
Sex
Forms of Sex
List of "Curse Words"
List of Pornographic stars

Among other things

our school blocked Wikipedia because it's a "bad source for information".  Seriously.

The admin in the server room literally watches for new unblocked sites and blocks them.  Once I actually saw someone on DailyMotion, and then when they refreshed the page it was blocked XD

my school blocks things for stupid reasons...

let's see...

they blocked YTMND for porn, even though they police there being no porn (though they were stupid enough to not block any YTMNDs, just the main page. :|)

they block any game sites on sight.

they blocked friggn SDA, but not the microsoft/sony game forums.  they also blocked Nsider.

(for those of you who don't know, SDA is the best speed running community of the net, hosting the fastest records of games.  It's also where I've gotten most of my referrals >_>)

twin galaxies can suck my cock.

That sounds like invasion of privacy.
If I knew my town was watching me on the net, I'd make them see a lot of things.  ;D
Besides, I've been to 7chan at school (which surprisingly they don't block), and nothing bad happened to me.
what???
do they block 4chan?
Yeah, along with 12 and 2chan.
they block all chans except 7?
what a retarded school
Actually, it's Websense. :D
man, i can just imagine the teacher look in his face when he sees you browsing 7chan :D

Yeah, they watch us but those in the know can terminate the watcher and proxy away. Of course we only do this when there are no teachers around...

@Kilroy - Wikipedia is blocked for being a forum/blog at my school, but all we have to do is type in "en.wikipedia.org" to get around it. Incompetent admins. >_>

Quote from: Jono2 on November 22, 2007, 05:46:02 PMthough they were stupid enough to not block any YTMNDs, just the main page. :|
That's because YTMND uses subdomains.  Websense cannot block all subdomains from one domain, which is its downfall.

Yeah, our blocking thing is a little smarter than that, not smart enough to keep most people from calling the creator a dumbass, however.

There's an option that blocks all related links from a certain website.

I.E. the day Wikipedia was blocked...

All Wikipedia Languages were blocked, along with the rest of the Wiki's, so

Wikiquote
Wiktionary

etc. were blocked.

btw, there's a neat little trick you could try to get around a school blocking program, if it works.

-go to babelfish.altavista.com (Babel Fish translator)
-type in the URL in the translate page site
-select something like Chinese-simplified to English for the translation
-click translate or whatever

The result is like a proxy but faster >.>

it's a special backup page of Wikipedia.  It doesn't include the latest edits but it's updated every month or two.
