I need help with playstation 2 and 3

my playstation 2 wont play games that are compact discs. I want to get a playstation 3 but there is a problem: the original playstation 3's have backwards compatiblility, so the games would play perfectly, but the compact discs still might not play because its the same hardware as the playstation 2. the newer playstation 3's use emulation, which doesnt work as good as compatibility, but they might play the compact discs better.
