So will the PS3 finally have a killer app in 2008?

By killer app I mean a feature that in the minds of the majority of people justifies its purchase.

The Wii's killer apps have been Wii Sports and its perception of physically-active family entertainment.  The 360's killer app has been its stronghold of FPS's and Western games.

What about the PS3?
Blu-ray is still a possibility, but it's hard to say whether the platform itself has really yet grabbed much attention from the DVD format, or to a lesser extent from the HD-DVD format.  I wonder if this will change in 2008 and the use of the PS3 as a multimedia station will take off like the PSP has.

Its software lineup for 2007 has been fairly all over the place, much of it overlapping with that of the 360, unfortunately.  Will that dramatically change in 2008?  Will the release of Gran Tourismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Final Fantasy XIII (if it launches in 2008) allow the system to start carving out a significantly unique lineup?  Or will Japanese developers continue to work mostly on PSP/DS instead and Western developers continue to make PC/360/PS3 titles with an emphasis on the 360?

Home and LittleBigPlanet will be wildcards definitely, depending on how successfully it is marketed.  For stuff like that which target teens and kids, price will be a barrier especially if they already own another console or a handheld.

Devil May Cry 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4

Yeah, but DMC4 is a 360 title also.  It would be pretty interesting how the title will sell comparatively on the two systems.

Konami seems pretty loyal to Sony with MGS4, and Kojima has denied rumours many times about 360 ports.
