Does Gamestop usually get their new releases on the release dates?  I've never bought a game that day it was released so I wouldn't know.

Not usually. They will say so if it will be in stores on the release date.

All games that have a "Street Date" come out on the date they are listed.

And Brawl has a Street Date.
