Definately try and get a hold of FE 7, much better than sacred stones.

You don't like those parts? The other games would be better than SS if they had those features but they don't. Well Gaiden does but that game is sort of messed up. The bonus exp feature is a decent feature.

Defesne leaves a lot to be desired... but give her a delhpi sheild and she basically never gets touched.

Sacred stones is really easy, the free roaming means that you can train whenever you want and get weapons when you run out.
Theres even a weapon store in the caravan

If you honestly believe this, you can't call yourself a true FE fan.

In comparison, FE2 and FE8 are the worst FE games.

FE8 has lack of difficulty, lack of story depth, lack of character depth. The only difficult part in the whole thing is the Ruins, and that's only unlocked after you beat the game, and isn't hard if you have 20/20 characters.

Also, the ability to buy stat boosters at will after a certain point is cheap.

FE is a game that requires strategy and thought. FE8 doesn't require anything. Hell, a three year old could probably beat it, even on Hard Mode. On Ephraim's route, which is harder. FE2 requires thought and whatnot, but... it's still not great.

Granted, I love all the FE games, but FE2 and FE8 are by FAR the worst. No contest.
