If that's the case, then just bump the hard drive RPM speed to 7200. It makes things a heckuva lot faster. You might bump the processor a little bit, but you're still talking almost 4 gigs with your current selection. Unless you're going to be doing some seriously heavy-duty gaming, it should be fine.

Also, get a basic graphics card, like a 128 meg ATI or NVidia, so that your system doesn't have to allocate memory to support graphics.

Not even Portal-ready. You need a better graphics card STAT. I recommend a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS. Pretty cheap for a good graphics card. Also, 80 gigs is not that much for a gaming computer. That's only enough to hold about 7 games on it. (Assuming you download other items as well, and possibly pr0n if you're into that kind of stuff) You definitely want a bigger HD. Plus, at least 1.5 gigs are deleted from your HD if you're using XP, and at least 15 gigs if you're using Vista. Plus, if you are using an already used computer, it's bound to be a little rusty and slower, so you might want a new CPU.

I bought this computer new, but it's almost a year old. Yeah, I'm running XP. I'll go check on pricetags for these, thanks!
