Serious Lag Issues

Everyone knows that GH lags a little, all online games do, but just I minute ago, I was playing against this on hard on Knights of Cydonia, and it started lagging big time!  Big gaps between when I could actually see the notes led to me failing one of my best songs!  And it didn't stop there!  The lagging on the next song was so bad, I couldn't even play it.  I haven't had any issues with online play until now.  What could be going on?
