You're lucky I already saw it, or I'd have your ass on a platter.

phatyo

For those who saw it whats the monster name and where did it come from?

Judas

I saw it today, actually.

The whole point of the 1st person/home video perspective is that it doesn't make sense -- it's not supposed to be a complete, cohesive, and well-developed story; it's supposed to be a movie that gets you as close to the position of the characters as it can, and offer a thrilling adventure at the same time.

It's a great concept, and has definitely been done before... Blair Witch Project sort of tried and failed (in my opinion); however I'd call Cloverfield a success.

Really you have to rate it on two scales -- entertainment and "being an actual good movie by filmmaking standards". In the former category, it's very solid. I wasn't bored for a second of it. The monster reminded me of a Krootaur from Warhammer 40k mythos, which made it even cooler. On the "being a good movie in terms of actual filmmaking" scale, however, you can't even rate the movie. The whole 1st person thing eliminates elements like filmography, color, etc, and also severely degrades the importance of things like character development or acting.

In summary, just like any mainstream movie, you have to look at it for how entertaining it was. If you want to praise or pick on a movie for being a technical success, head to your local indie theater.

Also, the random Japanese Slusho websites and weird/awesome videos of Japanese people and moose give the whole thing a thumb up.

If you look at some of the weird websites they set up in support of the viral marketing campaign, one of them is a deep sea drilling company that apparently drills deeper in the depths of the ocean than anyone else... they have a map of their drilling locations, and one is in the Atlantic a bit northwest of Maine. So there's a possibility that the fluff behind the movie calls for an awakened deep sea creature, or something that lived below the Earth's crust, or some similarly action-movie-esque type thing.

Yes the movie was entertaning but its still needs a plot. For the begining i kept on asking myself question like what's going on and what's that monster name where did it come from. That was left unexplained and is there anything after the credits?
