Why do companies do this?

Still put games in paper sleeves.

They do it any time the game is packaged with some other peripheral that isn't a controller.

Like Link's Crossbow Training and probably Mario Kart Wii.

The funny thing is, Europeans, Australians, and Japanese get real plastic game cases.

They got a real case for Wii Sports, a real one for Link's Crossbow Training, and will probably get a real one if we get a sleeve for MK Wii. :(
