Yes, the gamestop I reserved Brawl at is having a midnight release AND a Brawl tournament beforehand!
Of course I'm going to enter, but I probably won't get very far, but I'd like to win at least one match.
So, I'm going to assume they're only using the starting roster, and the Wiimote. I'm not going to use any newcomers....sicne I don't know how to play as them yet. So I'll probably just train to get good with Pikachu again...

Anyone going to one of these things?

Well, I've heard that not only has Pikachu been changed from Melee, so has the game's flow in general. Training in Melee might not be a good idea, because your timing will be all off (not to mention how they weakened his up smash... I think).

A good idea would be to look up gameplay videos of Brawl on Youtube or Google. Since it's already out in Japan, you can just mimic somebody who's already gotten good with Pikachu over there. It's better than nothing, I guess.

Also, a little read-up on Smash 101 might be a good idea as well.

I'm going to the midnight release...

Hopefully I will be able to play in one match.

Tuppy frightens me with his knowledge of legacy technology.

Tingle_ad;afhjsdfijasifasd, training in Melee is a good idea. There is one big reason;

MINDGAMES, SON

You think someone will roll backwards, and they do. You punish. Mindgame. Mindgames are no different in Melee than in Brawl. Watching videos is useless when you don't even have the game. How will you practice it? What if they are using some uber-high technical stuff that you can't learn by your first match? What if you can never even get the opponent in the position to perform that move?

For the actual thing though, I would recommend using Ike (if it is a FFA) or whoever you think you are good with in Melee for a 1v1, though it would work best (IMO) if you got good with someone like Fox or Peach. Both are good in Melee and Brawl, and both are much the same (except Peach got a few buffs, and Fox got a few nerfs, but a buffed F-smash).
But this is my tourneyfag (high tier>Low tier) side taking over, so do as you please if you don't think you can trust it.

well, my usual mains are Marth and Ganondorf from Melee ( and Dorf got nerfed so bad, so forget that).
Of course, I'm just ASSUMING it's wiimote and starting roster for Brawl. Of the starting charcters, I may use Ike, just to play as him, but for tourney stuff I'll use my main from N64/decent at in Melee, Pikachu.
Thunder spam ftw.
I'm just playing CPU's right now to get a hang for the game again. I haven't played Melee in some months...
I'll probably get a friend or two to help me in the coming two weeks

amplas

None of the GS's around here are having them...
