Hi, everyone. So... I'd really like to learn Japanese. I know that it can be a pretty hard language and all but I really am determined about it. The only problem is that... I don't really know how to go about learning it. I've looked around for classes, but the only one in my entire town didn't work out... so I'm in need of another alternative. Any ideas?

You could take a peek on Amazon (or perhaps in your local library) and see if there are any Japanese language textbooks...but that's about it. I wouldn't trust an online tutorial.

Ummm... Rosetta Stone?

It costs a crapload, but it works...

What, exactly, is that? I think I saw an ad for it somewhere or other...

Well, speaking Japanese is easier than writing it, I'm pretty sure... but yeah, it's a difficult language, but I can do it.

I think it's more than that.

No, that would be Chinese... Japanese has somewhere around 100, 50 are Kakatana, and 50 are Hirigana.

You're forgetting about Kanji... I'm pretty sure there's a whole lot of Kanji.

Those online/software learning methods actually are not that bad... Rosetta Stone is particularly acclaimed, I think. My sister used it prior to moving to Croatia to get some basics down, and it worked well.

The hardest part is keeping interest without some kind of motivation.

Get a book. Get taps. Try and learn the basics then go to japan and do your best :)
