Can someone tell me how to make image backgrounds transparent?

Uhhhh.....
Theres always erasing the background but that really isn't all that helpful unless te background color does not appear in the image.
The file type wont change the background >_<

Magic wand tool in Gimp/Photoshop, make sure to add Alpha Channel first.

In GIMP, have your image on a transparency layer (checkered background). Safe as .GIF.

Works for me, always.

If it's already on a transparency, save as .png, only save as a .gif when it's an animation, it ruins everything else.

I used it in my sig iirc, and it turned out decent =p
