Why I Think Some Characters Stayed, And Some Left, And Why They Stayed The Same.

Notice, the clones that left are the same character as it's original.
Dr. Mario - Mario
Pichu - Pikachu
Young Link - Link

While the others weren't
Falco - Fox
Ganondorf - Captain Falcon

So he probably took away characters since they were actually the actual character
But what I don't understand is Roy and Mewtwo and why they left. But yeah.

Reasons Why I THINK Roy and Mewtwo got cut:
Roy: Sakurai didn't want too many Japanese-only characters so cut.
Mewtwo: A legendary and replaced by Lucario, who is only a half-legendary.

Now I will add why I think the old clones are still clones (Toon Link too):
Skills. You see, some people mastered Falco, Ganondorf, and Young Link in Melee. Sakurai probably didn't want to mess that up by de-cloning the characters he kept. It's like mastering Ganondorf in Melee, then in Brawl he sucks with him because he has a sword being used.

Interesting, but if you can't find an explanation for Roy and Mewtwo, then this explanation might not be valid. I still have to give you credit, however! ;D

HTA!

Who honestly LIKED Dr. Mario?

Just seeing his face and his little stethoscope made me want to beat him up.  >:(

Also, Lucario replaced Mewtwo, Pichu sucked as much as Dr. Mario, and Roy should have stayed in....  :(

he probably got rid of dr mario and pichu to make room for same series reps
remember he said he tried to keep same series reps down to equal things out
roy was the coolest fire emblem character     no flamming
young link just got remodeled
mewtwo was kicked to introduce lucario
paper mario on the other hand wouldve been cool cause his moves wouldve offered a great change compared to dr mario

I wonder why they put in Toon Link then? I'm not saying they shouldn't have, I actually like him but he's still Link, with the same moves

Paper Mario, no matter how cool he would've been, had no chance IMO, due to the fact that he IS Mario (just in paper form).

Toon link sails on the seas with a stone to guide him, while Link rides a horse with a demon-looking thing to guide him (Midna).
So they aren't the same person, just same name and both wear the "Hero's Clothes"

Oh, okay. I thought they were the same. I just thought the only difference between them were their looks (one cartoony, the other realistic looking)

Toon Link and Link are from different times also, and you know how the whole Zelda timeline thing is.

they really screwed that one up
