Notice, the clones that left are the same character as it's original.
Dr. Mario - Mario
Pichu - Pikachu
Young Link - Link

While the others weren't
Falco - Fox
Ganondorf - Captain Falcon

So he probably took away characters since they were actually the actual character
But what I don't understand is Roy and Mewtwo and why they left. But yeah.

Reasons Why I THINK Roy and Mewtwo got cut:
Roy: Sakurai didn't want too many Japanese-only characters so cut.
Mewtwo: A legendary and replaced by Lucario, who is only a half-legendary.
I wonder why they put in Toon Link then? I'm not saying they shouldn't have, but he's still Link.
Toon link sails on the seas with a stone to guide him, while Link rides a horse with a demon-looking thing to guide him (Midna).
So they aren't the same person, just same name and both wear the "Hero's Clothes"
Oh, okay. I thought they were the same. I just thought the only difference between them were their looks (one cartoony, the other realistic looking)
toon link had great potential
he couldve used windwaker, deku leaf, skull hammer, etc
they really screwed that one up
Yeah. I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one

I think Toon Link was a clone because Young Link was too. And those who mastered Young Link, would've sucked with Toon link if he changed too much.

Roy - Served his purpose as an Advertisement.

He really should have given him and Mewtwo an AT and Pokeball spot. At least a trophy for Roy.

false, Toon Link lives on an island, while Link lives in a village.
Toon Link sails a boat, while Link rides a horse
Toon Link had messy hair, Link was half topless (in the begining)

2 Different people, and if you do Snake's "Smash Taunt" with Toon Link, Meiling explains that they are different people.

True for the Paper Mario thing, but wrong about the Link thing.
If you've played Wind Waker AND Twilight Princess, You'd know that they are different people.
Also do Snake's Smash Taunt with Toon Link and Meiling will tell you that they are different people as well.

well technically every link i guess is different with a few exceptions
we dont add every link since the beginning of time into the game
i would strongly agree with you except for two things:
1. toon link was ruined because he was made a straight clone and not given "windwaker" abilities
2. paper mario wouldve been a really cool replacement for the doctor because he would have dozens of new, unique moves

1. I beleive he was the same because people would've gotten their main (If Young Link) ruined.
2. True, but I still think that the only reason he wasn't in is because he IS Mario.
