Probably a hack, unless he's talking about that one part where Kirby rides on Dedede's back. That's basically it. You don't get to choose when you play as him, except for minigames.

On multiplayer you can play as Dedede. And in a few levels, you can ride on Dedede's back, but you control Dedede so it's basicly playing as him.
