Should I get Sonic the Hedgehog for the VC?

Since I'm fixing my N64, I no longer have to wait for it to come out. Anyways, should I get it? I never played it, and I was just wondering if it was good and if I should get it. Actually, I haven't played a single 2-D Sonic game. Dont flame me. I have 1000 Wii Points right now. Should I get Sonic the Hedgehog or get some other game?

If you get Sonic Gems, play 1, 2 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles in that order.
