Does anyone here know how to resolve ipod issues?

I have a 1st Generation Ipod Nano that charges, but won't show up on my computer at all.  How do I fix this?

I've already tried looking for an answer, but I couldn't find one, and that's why I'm posting this.

try reseting the ipod. you know... slide "hold" on, then off, then press and hold menu and the middle buton for 5 seconds
