When starting a game, how do you decide who to choose? Is it a certain type you always pick? Or is it whoever looks coolest? Or do you rival someone in real life and pick their weakness?
After telling how you pick it, say who you picked (or would've picked) in each region.

Well when I was little, I always thought that Fire was coolest, so I just picked it and I always have since.

Kanto: Charmander.
Johto: Cyndaquil.
Hoenn: Torchic.
Sinnoh: Chimchar.

I usually pick water. But most of the time who is the strongest and looks coolest :P

Kanto: Charmander
Johto: First time, Totodile. Second time, Cyndaquil
Hoenn: First time, Treecko. Second time, Torchic. Third time, Mudkip
Sinnoh: First time, Piplup. Second time, Turtwig

Qsmash

I just pick grass types now.
Johto: Cyndaquil
Hoenn: Treeko
Sinnoh: Turtwig

darkmario

 The ones i like.
Kanto:Charmander
Jhoto:Totadile
Hoen:treeko
Sinnoh:Chimpchar

Now I'm nerdy and figure out my team before I even start a new game, so it depends.

However, for each game...

R/B/Y: Always Charmander, because Charizard is awsum
G/S/C:Cyndaquil because the others looked stupid.
R/S/E: First I picked Torchic because I wanted to stick to my Fire-type trend, but I didn't like him much as a Fire-type, so I started over and picked Treeko.
FR/LG:I picked Charmander again the first time. Second time through I picked Bulbasaur, and I wub my level 100 Bulborb :3
P/D: Monkey with Fire on it's but, turtle with a tree growing out of it's back, or a Penguin.

I picked Piplup >_>

Hoen: mudkip, nuff said
Sinnoh: Piplup, second favorite water starter, also because of the types.

Magnum

Mud
Kip

I survived 5 minutes of that thing.

Anyways, I choose at random. Whoever happens to be where I press A.

Bulbasaur
Chicorita(Sp?)
Treeko
Turtwig

O.K., I choose Grass. It's my 2nd favorite type.

Oh Vesperia, never change... never change

Kanto: Charmander.
Johto: Cyndaquill.
Hoenn: Torchic.
Sinnoh: Piplup because I despise monkeys.

Any thing with 2 types (Or two types later on), and then I look at the types and which ever one is the better combo, I pick! Also, moveset plays a part, but as of recent, I was too lazy to research the movepoll. :P

Lotos

Kanto: Squirtle because I thought you had to pick the starter on the box >_>
Johto: Cyndaquil
Hoenn: Torchic
Sinnoh: Turtwig

For me:

Kanto: Bulbasaur. only one with 2 types. However, If I had known how good Charizard was going to be when you really trained it well, I would have gotten Charmader. :-\

Johto: Fraligator. None of these ones had double types! :-\ So I picked the strong one! ^_^

Hoenn: Treeko. Actually, my sister started my game and picked Sceptile for me. I was going to restart, but I ended up liking him. :-\

Sinnoh: Piplup. This one is my dream pokemon. Ice is super effective against Grass, which is strong against Water. Water is super effective against fire, which is strong against Ice. Water is (I think. :-\ ) super effective against Steel, which is strong against Ice. Plus advantages against Flying, Normal (Cause he's got a few fighting moves in there), yeah, he was an overall awesome choice. ^_^

1. Why'd you quote Lotos?
2. Wasn't Maganium (Chikorita's final evo) Grass and Poison?
3. Piplup isn't ice. But it becomes steel on it's final evo.

2. No.
3. Yes, and water is .5 against tsteel

THEEVILSPERKY

Well.. usually one's a fire type and coincidentally I always happen to wind up choosing the one of that particular element. ^_^

I mean, Charizard, Typhlosion, Blaziken, Goukazarou?  C'mon, it's impossible to resist.

Names, type(s) evolutions, moves learned, etc... I've always gone with fire; it wins me over in all areas every time.

That's not to say I never use other starters.. but only via breeding usually.  I've gone through a few times with the others but I've always thrived with a fire starter.  It also brings some diversity to early parties considering fire isn't the most common type of wild Pokemon, especially early on... and I am a team player and try not to play favorites and spoil any one party member too much over another.
