After reading about Street Fighter IV getting an arcade release, I wondered whether or not it would be released outside Japan, and I am even surprised that it is being released in an arcade in Japan.

Arcades are still somewhat popular in Japan, but consoles like the Wii and PS3 are really what are currently making arcades obsolete in Japan.

The fact that arcades stopped being popular in the early 90's in America is kind of sad, as most of the arcade games I can find are usually those Golfing games and Cruisn' USA.

There's always Dave and Buster's, but that's like a thirty minutes away and they lack classic arcade games.

Any arcades near you?

It's coming out on consoles. I also heard that Capcom is making a special arcade styles controller to play it with.

Nope, arcades are all but dead in my area. Sure, there is the occasional pizza place with a Ms.Pac-Man and Galaga box (yay!), but no full fledge arcades anymore besides a D&B an hour away, and they've got crap. I miss the old arcades with the House of the Deads and the Street Fighters and the like.
We're not going to get SFIV for arcades...it's not gonna happen

About 15 minutes from my house is Gameworks, but there aren't any other arcade-esque-places near me.

Yeah, it is sad.

Less and less Virtual games and more un-virtual skill games that give tickets. :(

I remember one time when I was in Vegas and I went to New York New York's Arcade, and they had this really cool flight simulation game that kinda reminds me of Densha De GO.

I got all the passengers mad and they made me land the plane.  :D

There's an arcade in the entertainment complex near me, and it's quite extensive.  However, the people who run it decided they weren't making money from the entertainment part so they want to trash some of the entertainment for shopping.  If they get rid of the DDR machines there, I'll be angry D:

There was a place called the game den where I lived. You pay hourly for pool, xbox 360, ps3, or wii. They also had a classic arcade machine with everything from pac man to donkeykong to space invaders. It was only open for about 6 months. When it was all over the owner was down about 5k I herd.

Well, arcades aren't exactly money-making machines :P

Did you give the guy a high-five for effort?

Funny, my Dave and Busters has the DK/DK Jr/Mario Bros arcade machine and a Pacman arcade machine.

There's a Gameworks on the Strip, right below the Coca-Cola world.

And there's practically an arcade in every casino.  Some of them are decent, some aren't.

As long as they have Galaga, I'm happy.

I forgot, the half of the upper floor at the gameworks near me is dedicated purely to old arcade games. It's awesome. :D
