This hits a Nintendo gamer right where it hurts.

Right in their 512MB of internal memory.

http://kotaku.com/5023182/this-wii-hard-drive-is-so-darn-phony-and-funny

Yes, someone has faked a Wii Harddrive just before E3. How do we know this is fake?

Well, the Japanese on the drive directly translates to "Prohibited to be selling of specified. This is not prior art hard drive disk, we will treat steering wheel carefully!", which obviously shows that they threw something in about not reselling the drive and treating it carefully into Babelfish and printed a label out.

Here's the picture of the thing.

Wow, it looks pretty big, it's almost the size of the entire system. Of course, there's always the off chance that this is real, but I usually trust leaks like this only when they come from 2ch.

You do realize Nintendo isn't making, and isn't gonna make a HDD, right?

Yeah, but they might make it so you can save data directly to an SD card through a firmware update.

The Wii can't read SDHC. Also, You can save directly to it, and read directly from it already. Nintendo just isn't doing it. The only thing that MAY happen is Nintendo opening the USB ports, which most likely won't happen cause they're stubborn.

Why wouldn't you be allowed to do that?

They did that seven years ago with the GCN.

I think Guitar Hero: World Tour has the ability to save directly to an SD card for now, but I'm sure Nintendo will make them take it out.

I wish it was real, the Engrish is awesome.  :(

Yes, I know.

That's what I was talking about. It can be done. Nintendo just doesn't do it.

Why wouldn't they make the Wii SDHC compatible. -_-

What's the point of having an SD card slot? More importantly, what's the point of having TWO USB ports when a LAN adaptor only takes up one?

I guess it just carries on the tradition of Nintendo systems having expansion slots that are never used...

As far as I know, SDHC have more pins than SD. SD readers can't read SDHC because of physical lacking of the amount of pins. Not a software/firmware thing.

Extra memory.

Yeeeeeeeeeeees

It almost looks like a modified scanner. :P
Yeah, it's big enough to be the system, let alone the HDD.

Once again, this could be true. You never know. Engrish has been in Nintendo products before.

But it's fake now.

Uhm, the USB ports in the back can be used for a Mouse and Keyboard on the Internet Channel, if I'm not mistaken. Though I strongly suggest using wireless ones... As for the whole SDHC thing... meh. I have no opinion one way or the other.

Tupin

Even though this looks like an HDD already on the market, there is some kind of proof that this could be a prototype.

Yeah, I doubt it too.  :-\

From two years ago  ::)
It still has a similar look to the supposed HDD.

Yeah, some people are saying it's real, some are saying its fake. I think it's fake, it looks a lot like another external HDD.
