I'm not going to look for either of those games, so I would like to know if its necessary to play past installments or not...

If so, I'll read it in a synopsis or something...

On Amazon, you can get Symphonia for about 20 bucks, and Phantasia for GBA for like under 10.

The first time I played the demo I died on the boss. I'll be buying the game next week.
