Only half of this thing is technically legal...

Ok, so I just recently bought a Retro Duo NES/SNES hybrid, and I realized something. Hardware patents last 20 years in the USA and require extensive work to renew them. The NES's patent ran out in 2005, but the SNES's won't run out until 2011.

Meh, I'm not gonna return it like some people would *COUGHCOUGHHuelenCOUGH*, I just noticed it.  :P

Oh, and I can run Super Famicom games too. I have MOTHER 2 coming in the mail, which is awesome. It was actually cheaper to buy the system and a Japanese copy of the game rather than to get the American cartridge.  :D

Second half is pretty awesome, and the first half doesn't really matter, but still funny.

Funny.

Just as this thread was made, I was about to download a ROM copy of Earthbound.

The cheapest copies of EarthBound cost $27, but in the quality that I am getting my Japanese version, they average about $75.

I got MOTHER 2 for $12 shipped and the console for $45.

I'm going to use a translation guide, and this version has many differences from Earthbound. Most notably, Ness is naked in Magicant. Oh, and bars sell whiskey to 13 year olds.  :D

Oh, and it plays European games too. But apparently since everybody in Europe got rid of their SNES's as soon as the N64 came out, they are even more expensive than the Japanese games.

That's pretty cool. I just have my NES and SNES hooked up to the same TV. :)
I've always wondered if Earthbound was a good game.
YEAH

It is.

Find a copy if you can, but downloading the game is fine too.
