I loved AW:DoR, so, is AW:DS a good buy? Also, details, please.

How appropriate that I should look into this thread   :D

My first Advance Wars was Days of Ruin, and I just (yesterday) received Dual Strike in the mail!

To answer your question simply, yes, you would like it. The ground rules are the same of course, but in Dual Strike things play out almost like an RPG, in that you can level up your characters. There are a ton more CO's to use, and the graphics/music/writing are all just better to me. There are a couple of drawbacks from DoR, the biggest being online play, but if you wanna play online... Just pop DoR in  :P  Plus, Dual Strike has more modes than DoR, so that kinda makes up for it.

The CO powers make a huge difference in this game, which is different from DoR to be sure. That's hit and miss, some will like it, some won't. But you can turn it off in regular battles I think.

So anyways, just buy it. You'll love it. It's a great game.

Weird that both of us started on the last game. :P

Now, I thought the CO powers were balanced well in DoR [Tabitha and Caulder are overpowered, though, luckily the latter has no Power], the story to be good [not great], but I did think Beast, Cyrus, Doc, and Davis should be playable...so more playables is a +. Tell me, though...difficulty level...is it as hard? If so, then I want it, if it's easier...meh. Oh, online would be missed =(

I also liked all those aspects of DoR, quite alot. DoR is an excellent game, I'm just enjoying Dual Strike more :)

And don't worry about difficulty. The campain is already picking up in challenge at around the 12th battle, and I imagin it will get very hard at the end. And the other modes are already very hard.

Macawmoses

I'm assuming 12 is about half, being that DoR is 26 levels [sans training].

Can you touch on the other modes?

Olimar_91

I'm not sure how long it is exactly. I think I heard around 30, but I'm not 100% sure on it.

The other modes:

War-Room: Basically the same as the Free Battle mode in DoR. But in Dual Strike you earn experience for your CO's when you play here. So it's more rewarding in that sense.

Survival: I haven't played this one yet, because it seems extremely hard. Your goal is to finish a chunk of maps within certain limits, like time, turns, or money.

Combat: This one is interesting. It's a real time mini-game-esque version of the regular game. It's a pretty nice diversion, I haven't beaten it yet though, it's pretty tough.

Versus: For multiplayer. I think you can fight computers here too.

I think thats all the main modes. There's also a History section to check your stats, a shop to buy CO colors and maps, an unlockable extra's/soundplayer thing, and some other stuff. I hope I'm not forgetting anything D:

Yes. AWDS has waaaaaaaaaaaaay more COs(I personally think these COs have more diversity then AWDOR), Modes, etc. Just lousy design map, no WiFi, and a stale plot. Buy it. :p

And download Famicom Wars, Super Famicom Wars (It's my fav up there with AWDOR/AWDS) AW1, AW2. (Super)Famicom Wars has NO CO Powers, but has a lot of units and is way more challanging. Far Ranged air units ftw :p

GBW, GBW2, and GBW Turbo arent worth it through(except for cool units like the Dreadkought...costs about 42000...).

Flint: I have AW2, not as good as AW:DoR in my books. I plan on buying AW soon, though.

Oli: I like not having to buy the Music Player :(

Survival sounds fun, though.

Yeah..., but it's worth it. AWDS has about 60-70 songs. :0 Oh and the only catch is no Sturm. :(

Olimar_91

You don't have to buy the Sound Player, you just have to beat the game.
