He threatened to kill Mack. Without Mack, the threat is useless. So if Mack dies, Ridley is vulnerable to the good ol' chair of doom.

Good point, but a couple pages back, 'Matt' said he and Ridley were linked, and if Ridley dies, so does he, and 'Matt' is one of the most valuable innocents.
