The Sega Dreamcast launched 9 years ago today on 9/9/99.

It was more powerful than the PS2, but it suffered from poor sales due to everyone looking forward to the PS2 and not having a DVD player. Plus, EA never supported the system, denying it titles like Madden and Medal of Honor. It was the first system to come with a modem straight out of the box and helped drive online gaming to what it is today.

After withdrawing from making consoles in 2001, Sega continued to support the Dreamcast by releasing titles in Japan up until 2007 since the Xbox never really took off there.  :P

Anyway, next year it will have been TEN YEARS since Sega made a system. And maybe, that's for the best.

Maybe they should make a handheld system again...

Sega, I think you should start clearing out Sonic Team, they are making mistakes that other developers stopped making in 2001. Either that, or don't let them make a game in 3D.

That, and they rush every freaking game they have made, the head of Sonic 2006 said that he really would have rather kept the game in development for a few more months, but they would have missed the holiday season.

Then it was worth the time to wait for Brawl and its delays.

What kind of system could they produce now?

It would be quite interesting to see.

It's amazing how PO is the only board that exists.

As we are, it was and still is a great console....but Sega, frankly, would be best to explore handhelds, rather than consoles, if they return to that side of the industry.

This isn't 3rd party related, because this is about the before time, when Sega was a 1st party.

Legacy perhaps? I don't really care, and I see where you're coming from.

The Dreamcast was terribly overlooked and ahead of its time. If people were into online playing back then as they are now, we would still have games like Power Stone and Sonic Shuffle.

Friendly Hostile

My cousin had a Dreamcast, and I always thought it was a really nice system.   Never got the chance to actually own one though.

Best game ever: Crazy Taxi. <3
I wish I had a Dreamcast just so I could play that. :P

Mystic

Dreamcast is the most badass system ever.
