Never mind, that's way too big. It's a printer, probably Game Boy Printer.

Wait, that's the parallel port cable that Amazon used to have that allowed you to use a regular printer with the Gameboy Printer.

Maybe it's just one of those things Nintendo threw on there, then several months later decided to trash the idea because everyone started using USB. Sort of like that button on the top of the classic controller, or the mic port on the DS.
