Do you think Marijuana should be legalized? Or for a more correct term, decriminalized?

I do. I've never touched the stuff and never plan to, but I see alot of benefits of legalizing it.

Decriminalize it.  I agree with all the points of the video.  I've heard all of them before so it's nothing new, but they all make sense and they're all in the same video.

I'll discuss if someone wants to oppose.

Or maybe I'll oppose if nobody else wants to, because I want a conversation.

yep.  would take the strain off of legal systems, make something that never should have been illegal legal again.

Meanwhile in Nonhyperboleland...

Marijuana is not worth the trouble we go to to curtail it.

Meth, LSD, Acid, Ecstasy, crack, Heroin, now those are drugs!  Those are a real threat.

Marijuana is the Goomba of drugs.

I say we just mix rat poison in with every one of those drugs.  That'll take care of the problem, because all the users will die ^,^

Clearly at some point I must have taken the wrong layover because I seem to have wound up in Overkilltown.

why not!? if it's Decriminalize they will be able to control it a little better, plus it will no longer be a "forbidden fruit"

What a horrible argument and comparison.

I say no, but I don't feel like getting into a debate about it.

ThePowerOfOne

Yes and no. I also see some benefits of legalizing it, sure. But with all drugs, there are idiots who choose to abuse it.

But i'm with Java, I don't really feel like getting into a debate over it.

Lohn Jocke

Yes, we should. We should also legalize Drinking and Driving, Smoking in a small space with children, and allow someone to commit suicide, shouldn't we?
There IS a reason it's illegal, you know. How does "Feeling like you want to fly, and instead fall face first into the ground" sound like to you?

Well, nobody is defending saying no, so I'll bring up a point.

Heres the problems with legalizing marijuana.

1.  People always want to push things a step further.  It is just human nature to push your limits until you're told not to go any further, then you start back over and see how far you can go next time.  It's a very childish thing, but that's what people do.

2.  Marijuana is a transition drug.  Basically, a lot of people start with tobacco or alcohol.  Eventually, they try out Marijuana, and transition into something else quickly.  Once marijuana is legalized, there will probably be a lot more people transitioning to something else.  All of the people I know that have done any drugs have smoked marijuana first.  Every one of them did it while they were smoking marijuana (not literally while smoking it, but while they were doing it often).

3.  Although Marijuana may not cause a physical dependency, a mental dependency is still produced through overfilling the body with THC from an outside source.  Once THC has been introduced too many times to the body, the body will stop naturally producing it.  The same thing goes for the depressants (I forgot what they're called) that alcohol creates, hence why many alcoholics are very unstable, especially when they're not drinking.  People addicted to tobacco get jittery when they have withdrawals, because it also creates a calming substance.

Well, responses?

then why is alcohol legal?  this is what doesn't make any sense.  alcohol has much more adverse long term effects, and debateably short term effects as well.  you can't OD and die on marijuana.  you'll fall off that railing just as easily if you're drunk, perhaps easier.

I'm sorry, but you're just being ignorant about it.

Drinking and driving affect other people.

Smoking in a small space with children is legal anyways.  Second hand smoke is okay as long as you know the people you're giving it to <3

Legalizing suicide would be a great idea I think.  We'd get rid of all those irresponsible people that want out of life the easy way.  Anyways, good luck throwing someone in jail for killing him/herself.
